Notice how there’s only one team on that list twice? We Bears fans have seen some quarterbacking. If you’ve ever wondered why we seem somewhat patient with Smokin’ Jay ... there it is.

Possibilities:
On December 5, 1988, I was in Anaheim Stadium watching Jim Harbaugh make his first start as the Bears’ QB. He played poorly and the Bears got smashed, 23-3. Vivid in my memory of that game was that there were two really loud male fans in the crowd about 10 rows back from where my buddy and I were sitting. When I say…
Yeah! If only he’d beaten a black kid, no one would care.
Exactly. They’re not baby-starvers, they’re just liars.
That’s a clever idea. In my league, there was a week after which you could only trade with two teams: the one immediately above you in the total-points standings and the one immediately below you. I’m guessing it was about Week 11 or something (the list was considered to “wrap around,” so #1 and last-place could also…
Makes for a good scoring system, though. Back when I Commished, the scoring system that emerged after years of iteration awarded different amounts of points to different positions not only for different types of TDs but for different types of yardage, and the proof of the system came at the end of each season when the…
There’s a bar in Eau Claire that features a mural on an inside wall depicting the Packers inflicting Gayle Sayers’s 1968 knee injury (for the record, the actual injury occurred during a game against the 49ers). This is an actual thing that exists.
Geno Smith’s preferences are irrelevant. The State prosecutes and imprisons criminals on behalf of the public, not on behalf of individual victims. Prison is an unpleasant place people should strive to avoid by eschewing violent crimes.
None. None more Jest.
Yes, but that’s because of too many people convicted of non-violent crimes, not guys like this.
Why, yes. Yes, he should.
There’s a Special Toy Surprise for you starting with the third paragraph!
Great point. I wonder whether it’s substantiated by the stats. Did players from pre-’75 (or pre-’37) Yankees teams or Polo-Grounds NYGiants teams show a statistically significant superiority in triples hitting? I might try looking this up later.
Because I’m a Cubs fan, I just compared Clemente’s first five seasons to Starlin Castro’s (Castro and Clemente both played their first seasons as starters at 20 years old). In short: Castro beats Clemente at every hitting stat except triples; Clemente hit 42 (!) in his first five seasons. Castro struck out more often…
And this makes me sad. Dog Style will always be the taste of Wrigley to me.
Exactly this. He was a DT playing DE because he was so gifted.
Singletary was small, slow, and got more of the accolades from the national media than any of his teammates. That’s what “overrated” means. Singletary was also a very good linebacker because he was smart, disciplined, and played with a reckless abandon and powerful will. But he was the least talented guy in the front…
It’s really odd. They’re two of the five most overrated rock acts in history.
Untrue. Hampton was far and away the best player on that defense. The scheme maximized the talents of McMichael, Dent, and Singletary (who was the third-best LB), and could do so precisely because Hampton was, as you put it, “transcendent.” No one’s comparing him to Lawrence Taylor.
