Trying to bump to first post in case the comments order has not settled yet. Excellent post. This article is playing on that “fake news” border with this headline.

And yet you haven’t addressed the fact that intelligence agencies actually didn’t say Iraq had WMDs.
It kinda blows my mind that Hannah Gold (and many others!) think our nation’s entire intelligence apparatus has a duty to reveal its sources and methods in a declassified report. I cannot think of a single instance that any intelligence agency did that. If that’s what she’s referring to, she’s absolutely correct: that…
When I was in Iraq, I kept a blog and criticized some aspects of how the war was being run. I actually got death threats (or hopes I’d be killed, or creatively tortured) from the Conservative Keyboard Commandos supporting the war from the safety of their couch.
Has there ever been an outcry of “SHOW US THE EVIDENCE?” about intelligence investigations before? I’ve been alive a long time and I don’t remember that ever being the case. It was just accepted that we don’t get to know everything an investigation by the intelligence agencies.
Exactly. Thank you! There’s a GIANT difference between a class and de-class document. And there’s no way in hell the alpha agencies are going to release too much information in the declassified document. We can all rest assured that the people in government who have a need to know what the deal is - know.
Yep. The disgraced Italian secret agent who tried to bring the Yellowcake Uranium evidence to the USA was rejected as not being credible the CIA, the State Department, and the IAEA.
I was so bloody angry reading this article, but I have to say the comments (such as yours) have cooled me off and given me hope.
The classified report, as you seem to be having a problem understanding, contains the evidence you crave but there are very important reasons not to reveal it. Even someone of your limited mental ability should be able to grasp this. Maybe if you struggle with it for some time you may also see why your deluded…
Carping over “high confidence” in this case is essentially the same as the “evolution is just a THEORY” line. Incidentally, the report — which takes less than ten minutes to read — includes an informative summary of confidence levels and what they mean. Did Hannah Gold read the report?
As per the intel community being wrong about WMD....they weren’t.
Right on. If Trump just said, “We will not put up with election interference” and vowed to interrogate and respond, there would be NO outcry. I would be fully on his side. You’re right.
The report often uses vague language, offering “high confidence” (note: this is not the same a being sure of something)
It’s nice to know that YOU don’t think thats where some information comes from. The intel community uses various ways to find out information that you are not and should not be privy to. If you want to find out the information you are looking for, you can certainly read crowdstrike’s report.
CIA, FBI, NSA, crowdstrike, the list goes on. Maybe we should trust Trump because of his moral fortitude? Or because of his loans from Russian oligarchs since he defaulted so often he couldn’t receive a loan from an American bank.
Nodding in agreement and bumping. This is really irresponsible shit right here.
I actually read this article once, closed it, went to the NYTimes and got the links for the articles I read this morning, came back and read it again...my head was shaking the whole time - from the first time I read “did-they-didn’t-they” until I posted my comment. And, while writing this response, I scrolled up to…
Great post. I come to Jezebel to get a sane take on the crazy antics going on around the world but this article is embarrassing and bordering on fake news. Of course they’re not going to release the classified portion, isn’t that just common sense?
I don’t get the weird cognitive dissonance among Trump supporters (and Trump himself) who seem to want to pretend this never happened. Hiding his head in the sand and attacking our own intelligence officers doesn’t help.
