It was a well produced segment— the set-up prank, the build-up to the people in the restaurant after clueing in the viewers, and the cutaway from the filling of the bottles back to the pretentious clowns who thought they had any superiority over the rest of us! 

I think that’s why the segment was a great eye opener, not just for water snobs which was a newer concept back then but also how taste is in the “buds” of the beholder, and that pose of superiority looked ridiculous to the viewers.
