I don’t know that FF12 will ever live down the single player MMO moniker since it followed FF11. It’s like people never played Dragon Age Origins!

It is more of a JRPG twist on Traditional CRPGs that BioWare and the like put out. At least that’s how I always felt. To me it almost felt like a Final Fantasy/JRPG KOTOR.

Don’t take this the wrong way but every single time I’ve had any conversation at length with anyone who held the notion that FFXII was, quote, “a single player MMO”, I always end up getting to the conclusion that the person not only severely misunderstanded the game on probably every front imaginable, as well as

I respect your opinion, but for me, going from XII to XIII was a real slog. I didn’t care the for the forced linear narrative of the story, and the fact that it’s not an open world like 100% of the other FF games. Also, we all know in our hearts that Hope is the single worst character in the series. If you thought

Final Fantasy 12 is underrated as hell..

Not only that, but you can set the game to Wait mode, where everything stops when you are choosing actions for your team. Just like a turn-based JRPG!

How exactly is it more of a MMORPG than any FF with ATB battle? It’s still an ATB-based game, you still have full control over the party, you can still pause the game when an atb is maxed to think about how to handle situation.

13 was the only one in the last single player entries I didn’t like, 12 and 15 are purely amazing. You should give 12 another shot and play 15 if you haven’t.

It’s fun, man. Don’t listen to these dummies repeating that ancient “the game plays itself” criticism. It’s a lot of fun to tweak your gambits and see how your party does.

I absolutely adore this game and will buy it after I make some more progress through my backlog, but I totally understand if it’s not your bag. Hell, you gave it 10 hours! That’s WAY more than I give most games

I’m not saying that people aren’t allowed to dislike the game - if it’s not a game they like, that’s fine - but the “single player MMO” complaint has always seemed lazy to me. It’s... not at all like an MMO? If anything, it feels more like an early preview of what most open-world style games would look like ten years

That stuff is pretty good, although it can lead to a feeling of being uninvolved in the majority of gameplay. Fortunately, it allows you to switch around to different characters to override the gambits.

Except it’s NOT a single-player MMO. It just seems that way until you really start playing around with the Gambit system and coming up with creative combinations to destroy enemies.

Sorta feels a bit “been there, done that”.

Jesus, D-Day again? They aren’t even trying.

Exactly! Give us multiple stories that keep you on edge of the seat. The reason why everyone loves that nuke scene in MW1, is because nobody saw it comming.

What trying new things should stop in WaW? :p

Absolutely nothing about this seems the least bit fresh or interesting. We’ve all seen gruff soldiers dudes yelling at each other, we’ve seen fresh-faced young men tearfully crouching over their fallen comrades, we’ve seen dudes shouting “Go, go, go!” while things explode around them.
