@themightyspitz: IIRC somewhere someone tested the iPhone 4 and they found that signal degradation is about -20 dB when you connect the two metal strips. So if you have ie. 5 bars, with the degradation you'll get 3 to 4. But if you have like 3 bars you'll be in trouble.
