I don't necessarily have any problems personally with intelligent design. If one wants to attribute complexity to a higher power, more power to them. However, it has no place in education since it can't explain/prove/enlighten anything from an academic perspective.

See, I believe in cultural relativism to a large degree, but think the difference is that these people are a minor sub-sects of a larger culture that are not only ignoring the mores of the larger culture but its empirical facts. One doesn't have to be tolerant of intolerance or straight up crazy.
