This was a tour de force of an episode, and I fully agree that a big cameo-laden fan-pander (while potentially fun) wouldn’t have hit like this one did. The super-casual delivery of “My arms are too long,” was brilliant as an unsettling “Uh-oh, what’s happening here then?” way into the mystery, and the whole thing

I used to like them, but I only tended to get ones that were “unique” (insofar as they could be) so only masked ones, or non-human ones. Think Predator, Alien, Judge Dredd, Robocop, Rorschach, etc.

These things really have gone full Grey Goo at this point, haven’t they?

I'm going to throw out a WILD bit of speculation and say Christopher Eccleston turns up in this one to basically break the Who internet.

I didn’t *hate* the first AvP - I approached it almost as an “Elseworlds” sort of thing and thought it was fun enough, albeit nowhere near on par with either franchise it took from.

Bad CG doesn’t bother me all that much if everything else is done well, and I thought Prey was a solid 7/10 easily enough. Wasn’t Predator or Predator 2 level for me, but a very close third, just ahead of Predators (which I also like). The Predator can go take a running fuck to itself, tho. :D

It was nice to see a trans actress get a big part (I presume she’s going to be a companion going forward? I’ve tried to avoid reading too much news about the new series) without any real fuss being made over it by anyone in the run-up (that I’ve noticed, anyway).

Can’t stuff like facial scarring (etc.) for baddies also just be indicative of them being, well, fight-experienced? Like they’ve risen through the ranks of the bad by getting in amongst it tooth-and-nail, so to speak?

People in wheelchairs, or with any other disability, can surely be as good, neutral, or evil as anyone else and removing an evil character’s wheelchair for this purpose almost feels discriminatory (albeit in a well-intentioned way). There’s a scene in (iirc) Jingo by Terry Pratchett where Sam Vimes is called out by

That was genuinely one of the best Who episodes in some time. And I say that as someone who liked JW’s run, incidentally.

I’ve never seen this show, so don’t know if it’s justified or not, but “Two seasons then cancel” seems to be such a standard for Netflix nowadays, really.

It’s weird how many people seem to be criticising things not being explained - like the Supreme Intelligence Dead = Resources Gone link - which were explicitly explained in the movie. Even Jeremy Jahns on YT, who I generally like, had a big whiny “spoilers chat” about it where he complained about two or three things

I feel like this season has by and large been quite a return to form for the show, which I thought had sort of gone very inconsistent in the last few seasons (careening wildly between ‘excellent’ and ‘hot garbage’ week-to-week in some cases), and I enjoyed this one. Airing off Mazzy Star again was a nice touch, too.

I’d buy another ticket to see her try that stunt on Yelena.”

Doesn’t necessarily have to be so, though. Spider-man managed to be part of big world-ending Avengers stuff and then in his next solo outing the gang were still there and involved, so could easily do the same for Kamala and her wee posse. :)

I never noticed that, which is a sign I was just enjoying the ride overall. The Beast CGI on the other hand, was pretty bad, but c’est la vie.

Actually pretty decent. The three leads have very good chemistry together, and the 90 minute runtime does wonders to make it feel snappy and well-paced (and basically earns it an extra half-star as a result). If they’d tried stretching it to 2 hrs+ it would have floundered, but it succeeds pretty well. That said, there

Regarding Sylvie and complaints about her choosing a quiet life working in a McDonald’s over something more “badass” - maybe she finds the gentle mundanity of it to be peaceful? It reminds me of Death taking a break from things in Pratchett’s Discworld; he’s an ultra-powerful nigh-immortal being with experiences and

I know. When I say “if that ever gets made” I mean whatever movie that’s intended to be part of.
