From 30 to 250 is an impressive jump and presumably a very noticeable improvement—that was on SATA II right? Based on what you and others have said, I've decided I'll stick to a budget and just get the SSD. Less hassle! Anyway, thanks for your advice

Admittedly, that's what I like about yorkie... Each to their own, right?!

Airdroid - Creates a desktop environment through your PC's browser to explore your android phone and transfer files etc over WiFi. Really good and mostly works

Thanks for the link, but, alas, I live in Europe, where discounts on SSDs are impossible to find.

Not mentioned in the post, but I believe (not entirely sure but it seems to work) that Win+Q is the app dependent search shortcut—ie if you're in the store, the shortcut allows you to search the store and so on as opposed to only the settings page.

THIS is one of the main reasons. Sell cheap and make money after install through music, film and app sales. It's a similar model to Amazon's Kindle range.

Thanks so much for your help. My current performance is with a standard 5400rpm HDD and performance REALLY bothers me! Looks like I'll just get the SSD instead of waiting til I have enough money and time to upgrade both but thanks again for your time.

"SSD on SATA II is just fine" -I'm glad you say that; having to upgrade the entire motherboard was putting me off getting an SSD—looks like I'll finally blow the cash.

Looks like I'll go the same way and when I do a larger upgrade of the full PC, I can take the SSD with me! Thanks for your help!

Thanks—out of interest, what SSD did you get, because it seems to be a little hit-and-miss regardless of brand?

Hi, Thanks for the response. What is the difference between SATA 2 and 3 for an SSD and is it worth the effort and extra cost? I'm a bit of a novice when it comes to this sort of stuff so I appreciate your help. I have an i7 930, which seemingly supports FCLGA1366 sockets, DDR3 RAM, and a PCI-E graphics card. What

"Upgrading a motherboard can be one of the more complicated things to do" -Exactly what I was worried about! And of course it's a desktop. The most technical thing I've done with it is install RAM so this will certainly be a little harder and I'm unsure whether a new SSD warrants getting a new mobo too.

I'm looking at getting an SSD but my motherboard only has SATA II. Would it be worthwhile (and feasible) to upgrade the motherboard first? If so, how do I find the right one that works with all my components, and how easy is it actually?

Complaining about the lack of apps is like bitching about the iPhone's selection just before it was released. It will grow so quickly after Windows release as it will become one of the largest personal computer markets in the world and software developers will be desperate to tap into the hundreds of millions of users.

I do believe that has more to do with Apple than Microsoft.

Alas not. 100mb a month with no 'rolling credit'

Or like, under anything (tree, awning, walls)

The fact that we are irrational being is, I admit, undeniable. Whether that equates to being 'religious', I'm a little less sure about, but I *believe* we should agree to disagree about the concept of atheism.

I was actually suggesting that 'proper' atheism is in fact negative atheism. Positive atheism is, as I said in my previous comment, closer to a belief system, and in that respect I agree with you. Out of interest, are you religious in any way?

No, I do not believe either way, but I think it very unlikely that a single deity created and controls the world given the evidence we have at the moment. But, as mentioned before, if evidence came to light clearly suggesting otherwise, I would re-evaluate my stance.
