The classic 900 turbo has some definite issues in general, but god what a fun car to own when everything is working right. Setup from the factory to be very tail-happy. Pretty much built to do Scandy flicks.

The non-turbos have a different exhaust header that loses a lot of that sound, too. You can always tell the difference just by hearing it in person.

The real time savings is reducing the “weakest link” phenomenon where the entire line moves as slowly as the slowest pax. I remember the 1988 election, but the first real world news I can recall was the Soviet Union breaking up. I was 8 at the time.
