That's strange, they usually replace stuff like that without any questions. I took my battery in for my 2008 uMBP which did the same, just as the 3-year warranty was expiring, they took one look and went "yup, that's a bad battery" and went and grabbed me a new one.

I agree in a way, but power consumption specs are something that still (hopefully) has a way to go before we hit diminishing returns. I would like to start seeing more smartphones that will actually last more than one day come to market, and not be giant bricks of mostly battery.

It has good performance for the platform - and yes, if you look at the GPU benchmarks it does beat the Tegra. My car has good performance for a hatchback but I wouldn't go comparing it to a formula 1 car, now would I?

I would have no problem with iOS in the car, except it still means a proprietary system. A compatible vehicle will almost certainly not work nearly as well with a windows or android phone. It's just as bad as what we've got now. What if the owner of said car doesn't want to keep their iPhone? Now, they have to

I disabled wake on bluetooth, because I figured out it was doing it when the cat was crawling on the table and moving my mouse... I will check out this setting though, not sure if I have done that one... Thanks!

Ever since I upgraded to Mountain Lion, my Mac randomly wakes itself up and stays on, then I wake up to a dead battery. So, I usually power off anyway. But yeah, I'm sure they have improved things since 6 years ago.

FYI, the expression is "Cut and Dried" - not Cut and Dry.

I guess it's not "very old" but its a 2007 uMBP. It has always used about 1% of battery per hour in sleep mode. I did replace the battery a few years ago or thereabouts, didn't affect its usage too much (although the new battery did last longer, obviously). I do know that the battery has a capacity of 4000mAh

Oh, definitely. Assuming it's using 20 watts in sleepmode, you're talking about maybe $20 per year.

1 watt sounds reasonable, but still pretty high. I would have assumed more like 30mA at 5 volts (0.15W) to run the PSU relay.

I'm not trying to discredit your claim, but I'm genuinely interested in seeing data on this. Has anyone put numbers to these types of claims for a desktop machine?

Available, with limited features, yes.

Wait, that's a real thing? I thought it was a parody of the new Mac Pro.

Yeah, it will be taxing for sure on the single core A4.

There is a list of features available on the Apple site now, I guess. Didn't see it before.

Well, the 3GS got pretty much all the banner features in iOS 5, so I'm somewhat hopeful. Not sure if the older chipset will be supported for the 3D crap, though. I would prefer not to upgrade although I do have eligibility.

I wonder which of these features will be available (or not) on older hardware.

They weren't talking about Boeing in the article. I think anyone interested in the subject is well aware of the problems the Dreamliner has had. But go ahead, deflect away.

That's actually a great point and can be compared to places like California where seismic reinforcement is part of the building code (for good reason), or Florida where lightning protection is mandated (again, for good reason).

The airports are at least thinking of the power issue. I worked on an expansion for a large airport and we added outlets under every pair of seats. Actually, we used a little box that has two 120V outlets and two USB plugs. We did an area with about 6 gates, and there were ~400 of these things.
