I wonder if part of that is the movie assumes you chose to watch that whole movie. It already has you for the duration. Whereas to get the ratings it needs to survive, TV has to be more concerned with grabbing viewers and holding on to them until they put the remote down.

12 Years and a Movie!

I don't think we'll see people marathoning old Big Bang Theory episodes, but it does seem to be the heir to the Seinfeld throne of playing random out-of-order episodes in syndication at all hours of the day. So I think it'll stay in the zeitgeist for some time to come even if people haven't seen it all in order.
