I would think that given there was FOUR YEARS between the total claim and the initial CarFax report that claim or lawsuit would be possible. Who releases those records on a car that long after it happens? Something is shady there, whether it is a prior owner or CarFax, it isn't right.

Some. A dealer I worked for does a "super sale" twice a year or so. They bring in a ton of new cheaper inventory, several outside salesman to sell the new cheap stuff, and the normal salesman try to use the increased traffic to get them into the good stuff that has always been there.

The Engine had blown a few months earlier and was replaced under warranty. Aside from the engine I had $3000 more in warranty work that year done on it. With that in mind, I listed it because my warranty expired right after the engine blew. I had learned its a car you want a warranty with.

True. But I think your numbers are exaggerated for most people. I think mine took 5 to 8 hours of work. My time is closer to 35 dollars per hour. Definitely worth it.

Mine just had engine number 3 installed under an after market warranty. Sold it for 9k. Book was ~6300 at the time.

When I worked at a BMW dealer there was an awful lot of conservative talk radio on the more expensive cars.

Another major consideration is how quickly you need to sell. Selling my last car took 5 weeks of patiently waiting for the right buyer. If you can't wait or you need a new car now, trading would be a better option.
