Why should a traffic dude arrest someone for a warrant?

The US is the only country I’m somewhat semi-regularly in where I can speed. And all my friends who moved from Europe say the same. Speeding has been - aside from maybe Italy and small parts of Spain - all but eliminated in Europe. And it’s done mainly through cameras and heavy fines (as well as prison time for

Which makes money for the city, but it doesn’t do anything to help prevent an accident that day.

A speeder can cause an accident before he is pulled over. Argument is broken.

There was no way for me to slow down further without her ramming into my car.

you don’t fix that with cops, you fix it with road design (narrow lanes, chicanes, whatever to slow drivers down). as soon as a cop isnt there people will still go as fast as the road allows

I was once nearly sideswiped by a nun who ran a stop sign. There was a cop right there. Did he stop the nun? No.

And what happens when the unarmed traffic dude finds a felony warrant for the dude they just wanted to give a ticket to?

Cameras don’t have to be hidden. They can be big and obvious and make it also obvious that you’re going to get a huge ticket.

I once had a woman tailgating me so close that I couldn’t see the grill of her GMC Terrain through the back window of my sedan. I was afraid to slow down as we came into a reduced speed zone because she was so close.

You’re confusing traffic stops with traffic enforcement.

That’s what happened in the latest shooting. Would’ve just been a ticket for an expired sticker had the dude not had a warrant and decided to run for it. No excuse for shooting him, but I don’t think “traffic only” cops solve that problem, they’re still gonna call the real police for felony warrants and we’re back to

So you’re either misrepresenting Ralph reporting about things as his tacit endorsement where there is none (2nd, 3rd, 4th) or misunderstand posting a fact about the oldest bike lane in Brooklyn being a call for more bike lanes in Brooklyn.

Why do you think riders of e-bikes can be interchanges with motorcycle riders? The storage/skill/licensing/uses/costs(as new) of those two are quite far apart. The majority people live in dense areas close to their jobs and have traversable weather the majority of the year. E-bike sales are rapidly increasing with no o

an electric bike is going to be worse for the environment than a traditional bike.”

E-bike sales saw a 65% increase pre-pandemic followed by a ~150% increase during it. About 80% of Americans live in metro areas, so the trends of those regions is closer to generalizing Americans than people in rural areas. Having read some of those “rural” maps while house shopping, I’m sure it’s closer to 60-70%

First you are arguing that e-bikes are more carbon heavy than bicycles, now you are arguing they aren’t carbon heavy enough?

Ok, I’ll bite.

Bingo.  Less cars is the goal here, not necessarily more bicycles.  E-bikes are just what they are doing to try to reduce cars.

I’d argue that putting a battery and motor on an bicycle just adds to its carbon footprint. Pedal like its intended.”
