I wouldn’t immediately dismiss his perspective here, not when media outlets like AV CLUB are posting hyperbolic headlines like this. Disney isn’t perfect and neither are the people writing about films and film culture. Everyone overreacts to everything; the media and the audience are definitely in cahoots on that…
I’m a 38yo man. I enjoyed the originals as a kid at the height of their popularity. I will never understand how these movies are such a big deal to men my age and have never went to re-watch past the age of 13. Every time I read articles and comments and fighting about this franchise I am so confused about where all…
He looks completely unrealistic. Nothing like all the genies I’ve met in real life.
Even after the success of Aquaman and potentially Shazam, I don’t feel like anyone associated with these movies or this studio is in a good enough position to be talking about these projects until cameras start rolling.
These movies have gotten notably, progressively lighter in tone starting with Wonder Woman. It’s odd to me that, with Shazam being the fourth that isn’t darkly serious, everything written about this movie has to reiterate how much it differs from the previous films, as if the marketing isn’t doing a good enough job of…
First of all, he never even gave this interview.
The Rock said he never gave this interview.
I don’t mind dark. This is just corny and trying too hard. It’s an angsty teen’s version of dark in the 90s. I’m guessing the people writing this show were angsty teens in the 90s. Hard pass.
Film criticism isn’t (or isn’t any LONGER) highbrow so this doesn’t make a lick of sense. Also, I’m tired of this binary “fan vs. critic” nonsense as if the public cannot also be critical.
Everyone has a take on why these movies “don’t work” when it’s as simple as piss-poor storytelling.
What do post-credit scenes in other movies have to do with his movies?
I 100% thought a white person sung that song.
I’ve been going off about that lady’s article since I saw it last night. I feel like she’s hiding behind “etiquette” just so she doesn’t have to pay for her own meals when she goes out with friends. If we’re dating and I invite you out, sure I expect to cover the whole check. But five or more of my friends?? Nigga for…
I’m in no position to state what exactly makes a film Oscar-worthy but Wonder Woman was my favorite superhero movie of last year and even I can admit the third act has some problems that stop it from being truly great.
I know people who liked it. I know people who disliked it. I don’t understand why that can’t be the end of the conversation and for everyone to stop thinking just because someone else has a difference of opinion that there’s some kind of hivemind or bandwagon thinking going on. It’s so childish
I like the idea of an Oz reimaging or reboot that doesn’t rely solely on the first book or the MGM film as points of reference. Emerald City tried to incorporate ideas from the later books but the show still obnoxiously winked at us for being different. That plus it was boring and dumb.
I really want Hollywood to try and go a full decade without making any King Arthur, Robin Hood, Tarzan or Peter Pan movies.
A take.
I’m fine with this. If there’s anything left to complain about I’m sure it’s all in the movie.
