sure, he was terribly miscast in planet of the apes, but he also obviously didn't give a shit and didn't even attempt a performance.  still really liked the film, though, thanks to the superstar combo of andy serkis and weta digital.

there were a lot of these kinds of films in the nineties.  films like this, the aforementioned death becomes her, matinee, the 'burbs, and some more that i'm not recalling, that suffered from a kind of exuberant generic-ness.  they tried way too hard to be both comedies *and* horror fests and never quite managed

of course her songs are terrible and she can't sing, but she can't even pull off the basics of being a pop star— dance or look hot.  caught her on snl a year or so ago and was baffled as to why she exists.   i guess the name is enough.

i liked this thread waaay better when it was all about what we did over the holiday break.

i suspect the marriage has more to do with it than her age.

that's a great theory, but the theme song does say that they're
"a page right out of history".

same here.  i'd read "average… i'm not the biggest", then get to "Linklater fan" and be totally confused.

even though i had seen much ado about nothing before, metropolitan was the movie that made me realize that kate beckinsale is the most beautiful woman i've ever seen.

yeah, i see what you're saying (esp. the exploitation of cheap, environmentally destructive foreign production), but whenever someone makes a comment about the iphone thing, it seems more like a "get a job" or "take a bath" dismissive, kneejerk response.  which seems a bit unfair to me.  sure, the occupy movement is

it's a communications device.   it's not like they're driving to the occupy protests in their yacht.  i would argue that most of these protesters are not protesting capitalism, rather they are asserting that we are a democracy first, and it seems that our political system has forgotten that.

i've never understood how having an iphone, or a computer (or a tv for that matter), means that you can't have an opinion, or protest peacefully against a system that is clearly rigged.

"hey buddy, wanna buy a monkey?"

daniel shore did a great on in the game.  really fucked with michael douglas' head!

i actually enjoyed the late shift, but i really loved how letterman openly mocked it on air, and how he always said that the actor playing him had "orange" hair.  it also made for an awkward first appearance on letterman's show for john michael higgins.

and dr. arzt from lost!

thanks for the clips, especially that first one.  what show would do that these days— almost four minutes of dialogue free, poignant storytelling.  just beautiful.  giacchino provided lost with the best music to ever appear on a television show.

i'm with you on everything but the "network television acting" and "shoddy writing".  lost had some of the best, most interesting acting i've ever seen on tv.  and that with a regular cast that usually ran 15 deep.  there's a reason the show got several nominations, and quite a few wins, for individual, supporting and

i'm pretty satisfied with the answers we did get, and with what was answered (though i would still like to know more about what the smoke monster actually was, and why the man in black either became the smoke monster, or released the smoke monster.  but, whatever).

it was just tonight that my friend and i went to see the adventures of tintin in 3D.  i tried to get him to put on the glasses, but he refused.  so i punched him, then he punched me, and for fifteen minutes we fought.  once we were both exhausted, i yelled "put the glasses on!  put em on!"  and he did.

i gave up on comic book movies after the first ironman.  they are all kind of the same and kind of boring.  i will not be seeing this.
