It is telling that you think you think a community college education is “dodging” anything. It is not. It is purchasing an equivalent service for a much lower price. That may - and probably does - change in the latter years of a college education, but not for xxx101 courses.

What *can* save one from student loan debt is not going into student loan debt. Sure, it may be a sacrifice to spend 2 years at a community college before going to a more reasonably priced 4-year ( or beyond ) program, but until people stop paying exorbitant college expenses ( and the government stops subsidizing…

FWIW - and this was quite a while ago - we called our credit union and found out when we could cancel PMI and then cancelled as soon as we hit that threshold.
