I’ve always wondered when “shields” made their way into Star Wars lore. I know one of the Y-wing pilots at Yavin mentions deflector screens, but nothing in that movie (or V and VI) implies that the Rebel fighters have shields. They go down really easily.

And, greatest of all, there were loads of characters that were weren’t Skywalkers or Solos. All my favorite parts of the EU were the books that actually, like, expanded the universe and showed me that not everyone was flying through the galaxy with their plot shields on full.

I guess I don’t see what everyone else does in Zahn’s writing. Besides Thrawn, those books bored me. I didn’t dig the Hand of Thrawn Duology either—with Corran Horn in there, it felt a little too cheesy-TV-crossover for my tastes.

That story sounds very, very familiar. My MIL tried to get me on Team Big Wedding and tries to get me to agree to her criticisms of my wife. Shit, even if I do agree inside, I know better than to give her that inch. The mile she takes is way more crap than my wife deserves to deal with.
