Years of living with different housemates has helped me create the LCD theory - lowest cleaning denominator. When more than one person lives anywhere, the person with the least tolerance for dirt/clutter will end up doing the most cleaning (everyone else isn’t bothered much and will ignore it until it’s dealt with).

Now playing

My sister-in-law’s parents are farmers in a state where fireworks are legal. The 4th of July is usually a big pot luck at their house, with people chatting and snacking all day, streamer and parachutes (the rocket goes up, there’s a little explosion and then a shiny streamer or plastic soldier in a parachute float

I am the worst neighbor, but I suspect my neighbors don’t read Jezebel, so I’ll rat on myself.

After many years of employment uncertainty (I’m very good at what I do but whether or not the government contract would continue was in question), I got an answer I was not expecting - the contract is being ended, my last day was last week, and my health insurance ends tomorrow (damnit, why couldn’t healthcare get

It’s not a Federal holiday, so it’s up to the company/organization. The post office is open and so are most banks. Public schools are closed where I live, as are private Catholic schools. The Jewish private school is closed but for Passover, not Good Friday.

I’m pretty sure I’ve seen people discussing it before, has anyone been a contestant on Jeopardy? I got the call and am scheduled to go out there, but I have no idea what I’m getting myself into. Anyone have any pointers?

In college I got a job in telephone support for the school’s registration system - I was one of the people that you got when you wanted to talk to a live human. During peak times, there were roughly a dozen of us working in a basement full of computers and phones. 3 of us were students, everyone else was out of rehab

I don’t travel that often but I’ve had a few dreadful incidents:

A few years ago I purchased a house with a window ac sitting in the garage, when summer came I put it in the window. When fall came, instead of finding a place to store it, I dropped it out the window. That one was trashed* and when the weather got hot I bought a new one. Last fall I successfully removed the ac

It’s been a weird day. Today I hung out with an ex-boyfriend (we dated over 20 years ago) to cheer him up. He had a long story about attempting a relationship with someone new and it failed. Eventually I told him my story about recently getting rejected and we ended up having sex (with each other, instead of the

Caution: basic bitching to follow...

Express is a free paper put out by the Washington Post, and in yesterday’s Blog Log (which is basically printed tweets), there was Ginger Is A Construct !

Nice.

I got stood up. Technically it wasn’t a date, it was a group activity that he failed to show for, and he didn’t text or email to say he wasn’t coming. I couldn’t decide whether to be hurt or angry, I’ve decided to go with angry. It’s 2017, when circumstances change there are a variety of ways to let someone know you

My mother’s not the executor, that’s my uncle and we’re estranged (lot of that in my family). I don’t think the will has been read yet, she’ll probably be involved in that and will update me.

How long after someone dies is it ok to enquire about their estate? Because I’m a terrible human being, I’ve decided 15 days. My grandmother passed away on Thanksgiving and since I’m getting laid off next month, I called my mother and asked if I was still getting money from my grandmother’s estate (after my aunt died

This year’s Thanksgiving was just sad. My mother is an amazing cook but this year she had a cold and the green bean casserole and stuffing weren’t up to their usual greatness. We ate super early so we could take the leftovers to my aunt and uncle at my grandmother’s house. My grandmother was there, but she hadn’t been
