Honestly, I hate when things are phrased like, “that’s the equivalent of <some desirable thing that you’re missing out on!>”. Take that screenshot for example - “you’ll spend 1.3 years commuting, enough time to watch 6,120 movies!” - and the implication is, “wouldn’t you rather be watching movies than commuting?

I was being a tongue-in-cheek, but perhaps not enough to be obvious ;)

In the four-person online marketing company I work for, I fill the role of Data Engineer and Data Analyst (we have no need of predictive modeling, so I can’t claim Data Scientist, I guess). Does that mean I can tell my boss I should be compensated for both positions? $165,000 a year? I mean, that’s only logical, right?

Of course. That’s why I said “whenever possible” :)

Luckily I live in an area where the caps are suspended. But looking at my usage, I top out at about 500GB a month, so if they raise it to a TB, I’m good to go. Nice.

Wow, thanks for that. I was about to start looking into it, but your comment saved me the trouble. No way I’m turning off two-factor!

Get together with some of your neighbors who agree with you on a range of issues, and storm the HOA. Take it over. If you know you’re going to be living in that neighborhood for the next 10, 20 years, there’s no reason you shouldn’t be running the joint.

Comcast is my company, so I can only speculate that the problem is either that it’s because you’ve spoken to Retention, or because they’re untrained and don’t know what they’re actually capable of doing. Probably the former.

I’ll sound like a broken record to anyone that’s seen my name on articles about cable before, but...

Sous vide, as a method, has been around for more than 200 years. It was popularized in the United States in the 1960's and has become even more popular recently with the advent of circulators small enough and inexpensive enough for people to have at home, instead of being relegated to restaurants.

There are tax benefits before you have kids as well. And actually, after you have kids, if you make over a certain amount of money, the breaks you get for having kids dry up - we hit that cap this year, and we can’t send the kids back because they’re too big to fit up in there anymore, so we’re stuck with ‘em.

Will you please start including warnings about those battery packs? People in a lot of places can’t just throw them into their glove boxes, because they are a significant safety hazard.

My father in law - an even bigger geek than I am, he’s an ex-NASA engineer - used to hide thermochrons all over his house (and his kids’ houses). Clever little devices; if you’re curious how hot your trunk gets, leave a thermochron in there for a few weeks when you think the weather is hottest, then check the

Yes, however... people tend to confuse that with accepting opinions or worldview different from your own. Hearing and listening and learning is important. But not every opinion or worldview should be accepted.

I read a headline, though I didn’t have time to read the article, that suggested that the government may soon remove marijuana from Schedule I. So... is that it? Is that national “legalization”, or are there more hoops to jump through? How would that affect medical marijuana in individual states, if at all?

That can still vary, though. My fridge has temp control on the door, and I can set it to any number in a ten degree range. Would a ten degree difference in the starting temp alter the time-to-boil by more than 30 seconds and therefore throw off the wattage estimation significantly? I have no idea.

I thought we were supposed to be super careful about shining lasers up into the sky so we don’t blind pilots and crash planes. People are firing thousands of lasers on their houses and trees now? Don’t some of them miss and go into the sky?
