My “cusp of the Boomers and Gen X” gen could not wait to get our licenses! NOBODY graduated high school without a license (though most of us did not have a car of our own or even have a third family car for our own use). I learned to drive a manual in a Toyota Celica GT (honest—it was pretty sporty and loved to rev).

The point is that it is how some people of the era that Fleming wrote in did think and feel that way. It has nothing to do with whether the language used “[has] any story value.” It places the book within a certain historical context.

First kitchen? And you recommended cookware from All-Clad, possibly the most expensive brand on the market? Yeah, good luck finding any of that at a thrift store!

Uh, throwing a javelin and pitching a baseball are two different activities. Claiming that a javelin thrower doesn’t have the arm-strength of a MLB pitcher is ludicrous. Have you even bothered to watch the sport? Or see the physique of those athletes? And it’s absurd to think that pitching a ball is merely a matter of

I have to say that I am conflicted by changing any author’s book(s) to be more modern in terms of the treatment of other races, ethnicities, nationalities and gender. It’s certainly not that I want to see Black people described with the N-word or worse, and other groups of people wrongly disparaged. But I feel that

No--they need an Olympic-class javelin thrower. Note how the thrower is confined to staying within a confined box on the ground for their throw, just like javelin throwers can’t exceed the throwing area.

I don’t know. But for some people, the price difference between a FWD and an AWD is the deciding purchasing factor.

Considering that a base model Crosstrek with the enthusiast’s desirable manual transmission comes in at only $23,645 (plus destination fee, etc.), I don’t see that it has “way higher margins.”

You beat me to it! It’s a pretty common dessert dish at many Jewish holidays and celebrations and it’s delicious.

Bummer that it’s not just a one-time cost for the feature. I don’t take enough photos, need the storage space or advanced editing tools, or, have that great a need for Magic Eraser to make it worth a subscription.

Sure, no argument. I agree that AWD has a lot of benefits, but it does have a slight negative effect on mileage which seems to be a premium feature at this at this price range.

Fair enough!

First, a question: if the base model is getting turn-directional swiveling headlights, what makes the ones on the higher two trims even better?

Hah! I don’t hate him but I do hate his singing voice and don’t like Maroon 5's music. Also: he cheated (we know because it went public) and, while we can say that makes him human, we can also say that makes him a shitty human. I mean, really, this was his denial:

I hope he wasn’t thinking that he could drive the Maserati at 185 and still keep his license...

Well, no, they weren’t going to re-serve it but it’s easy for fast food employees to become jaded because of the small number of people who will try and scam them out of free food. And it happens everywhere. I worked at Starbucks (not all that long ago) and there would be the occasional customer who would drink all or

Nice! I can “feel” the incredulousness!

If you don’t like how your tax dollars are being spent, do something about it! Go to city council meetings, write/email your elected officials at all levels (state, local, federal), organize, petition, or even run for office. It’s just too easy to complain about the few projects that don’t work out.

According to Kelley Blue Book and the Bureau Of Labor Statistics, the average new car price at the beginning of 2023 is $49,388!

You’re only partly correct. However, especially for Boomers, the price of a used car, even financed, was a far smaller portion of one’s income/savings. Wages over time have not kept up with the basic price of living and therefore a used (or new) car is far greater expense for Millenials and Zoomers (is that what we
