If there’s no rust showing on the front of the hood, then it’s as close to “rust free” as you’ll ever find. Transmission, drivetrain, and engine on these cars are nearly indestructible. Heck, it’s nearly impossible to even bottom-out the suspension on these things, and trust me, I’ve caught a LOT of air with a Volvo

Not really. It was 1980, and I had enough cash to buy my first car, and I wanted a VW type 1 “Beetle”. Found a solid-but-rough 1966 one near me for $500. I got in the car, pushed in the clutch, put it into 1st, and drove away. Simple as that. Oh, I missed a few downshifts that first week, and killed the engine at a

What surprises me is that there WERE heavily-armed officers in the crowd, carrying military guns. In the video where that woman was shot, it was a capitol guard with a pistol who fired, but right behind the mob breaking the door down were 2 officers with automatic weapons NOT firing. WTF?

It’s really not so bad, it just takes experience. Early in my trucking career, I found myself on a road I shouldn’t have been on, looking at a 5 ton bridge, and my only recourse was to back up my 53' trailer about 3/4 of a mile, back to where I made my wrong turn. Took me about 1/2 an hour, but I did it. In the next 7

Although he did win the driver’s championship once, Keke Rosberg was probably the most under-rated driver of his time. A time which included so many great talents; Prost, Senna, Mansell, Piquet and Lauda. Rosberg never seemed to have the best ride, yet he probably ended up with more 2nd place finishes than any other

Specialized transport railcars that Southern Pacific used. They had to design the car such that nothing would leak while being transported nose-down.

It’s a joke, but I HAVE seen odd truck shift patterns. One that DID exist was a 5-speed “box pattern”, where 1st was down/left, 2nd was up and dogleg right, 3rd was to the right, 4th was below, and 5th was to the left. This was often used with a twin-stick shifter, with the short-range shifter being a common 4-speed.

For probably the last 25 years, the cheapest car you could buy has usually been a Mitsubishi product. A friend of mine once bought the cheapest new car available, a Dodge Colt, built by Mitsubishi. In more recent times, the Mirage has been the cheapest car you can buy. So cheap, they don’t even bother spray painting

I remember the Pauls from IMSA racing nearly 40 years ago. Senior was well known as one of the hottest hotheads in the paddock, short of A.J. Foyt......

I can only think of 2 things of certainty about the next year:

I used to cross the Ambassador regularly with freight back 25+ years ago, and it was a nightmare even then. Between the truck backups , the poor road surfaces, the customs logjams and the high tolls, it was a crossing best avoided. Crossing at Sarnia would take you at least 40 miles out of your way, so if you were

Compare Keke Rossberg from 1984 and what he looks like on that new TV commercial with his son Nico....

Quite a difference between the 142 with it’s 2.? l OHV motor and the 2.4l turbo motor. The racing versions had water injection, and could pump out better than 400 hp. Dan Thiel in Rochester used to rally one (maybe he still has it) back in the 80's; it was an absolute beast, and was just about untouchable in the 2

Holy cow! And I thought the truck lineups to get across the Ambassador bridge were bad.....

Yes, I have that tool. It measures chain ELONGATION caused by ROLLER WEAR. I’ll pay you $100 if you can show me 1 element of any metal chain that has actually “stretched”.

Chains DO NOT STRETCH! The rollers wear, no “stretch” is involved!

In trucker lingo, a “headache rack” might’ve protected the driver somewhat....

Well, I guess she knows SOMETHING, but it sure ain’t F1, or even basic auto mechanics, either......

Maybe she’s a reporter? Or maybe she was just heading for the subway, and got surrounded? If either is the case, she’s got some cojones, it seems.....
