You can’t. Tubulars have an inner tube, and have a tread on the outside. You need to learn how to open the stitching, repair the tube, and re-stitch the tire. Either that, or just p!ss away $80 every time you pick up a piece of glass....

Some things about this video don’t make sense. you can see a semi going the opposite way, so I assume this is an Interstate-like highway, where if you are under 13'6" height, ALL overpass clearances are good. Also, how on earth do all the clapmdown bolts fail? I’ve seen loaded container/chassis trailers roll over and…
A few other details: Whitewall tires were originally made when the carbon-black rubber compound was bonded to a white-rubber carcass, saving on cost, and it actually looked kinda cool. Only in later years was the whitewall just an applique.
Yes, we’ve all caught it. Too bad the author hasn’t.......
Yes, I remember that solar storm. It was more like lightning or a bombing raid than any aurora I’ve ever seen before or since.
Oh, well, some much for editing.......
It depends on the driver. I ALWAYS did a smooth start, but there are a lot of drivers that still can’t use a clutch properly.
“Least known”? Well, at least it was known in 3 specific parts of the world....
Not too big a story. The guy was named Tom Termatto; he convinced the dealer to lease him this car (and several other high-end cars from various dealerships) on the credit from his shaky real-estate empire, as well as his family name. Then he used this and other cars as collateral for other loans. Took his scheme…
Well, this is a first; I once actually drove this very car. I worked at the only Audi dealer in Rochester at the time, and this was the only Quattro Coupe we had sold. There is also a story about the real-estate huckster who owned this car, but I’m not going to get into that here....
FWIW, I not only lived through those times, but I also knew Brock and his son. The memories I have of 1971 included All in the Family, maxi-skirts, leisure suits, Richard Nixon giving us bullshit, and god-awful color choices in cars. Things WERE becoming more commercial, more conservative, and cars were becoming…
Inflation, rising unemployment, air pollution, rising gas prices, urban decay, the SLA, etc.........
I make my negroni with Vodka, Campari, and Amoro
I can’t believe you guys are still on this trip. you must be averaging 40 mph for all of 6 hours a day. If it were myself behind the wheel, I would’ve been to NJ 2 days ago!
“I’m upping my standards; up yours!”
Oh, good lord; could you imagine getting behind this atrocity while climbing Berthoud Pass?
Well, on my old 1972 VW, I found that if I filled the spare to 60 psi, I could go at least a couple of months and still have enough pressure in the spare if I had a flat. Of course, if I did have a flat, I’d have to bleed the pressure down on the spare when I mounted it.
Probably will give you a slight improvement on the top-end, while making around-town driveability worse. Add a racing coil, and that thing will probably never idle worth a damn.
After 2 years, you’d think they would’ve added “Yakkety Sax” as the music to the video.....
I can just hear the telephone call now:
