I never understood the pledge every morning. Why would you ever need to do it more than once? I pledge alligiance (for today only?). I sat for the pledge all through high school for political reasons but I couldn’t figure out why it was even a thing.

This is so close to Barnette that when the school loses in the district court and appeals, they’ll probably get Rule 36'd by the appellate panel before the lawyers even get back to the office.

I am completely indifferent about Macklemore (I liked Thrift Shop I guess), but “he wore a costume in bad taste and therefore is an anti-semite” is a pretty strong take. Also, that article says 1 performance. You said “multiple times.”

Except for, you know, the actual case law that suggests otherwise.

Ah, I thought I recognized your foul stench when I was brought on board..

Let’s not forget that Parkway was in news just recently for another issue with their football team:

Don’t you dare drag that mess near us Moffs, Pal.

Tinker vs. Des Moines settled this as well, wrt to non-disruptive political protest at school.

Ah, school administration- the preferred home for tinpot dictators in America for over 100 years now.

Because of motherfucking course it would be from here. The only thing that surprises me is that it’s considered newsworthy on a national level, because I know this shit is just par for the course in these parts. Jesus Christ...this is considered porn by most PHS parents, I’m guessing.

+1 for holding Vader’s leash.

If these are municipal employees, does this actually constitute a violation of free speech? I feel like between this and Trump’s veiled threats against NFL players, we’re actually starting to see real-life examples of first amendment violations (versus stoopids on FB who think free speech means you have to accept

Breaking News:

“Parkway High school is committed to making sure your rights are publicly violated. Also, I am a huge idiot, and this stunning lack of morality on my part will surely blow up in my face.”

Yep, that was for the Pledge of Allegiance and should (hopefully) apply to playing of the National Anthem. The school will likely try to argue that athletics are not mandatory but elective, giving them some kinda BS loophole to make standing for the anthem obligatory. I hope that’s not gonna happen though.

you know, I think of league as a watered down version of rugby and Macklemore as a watered down version of hip hop (both of which I love), but somehow combining the two makes them awesome. advance, Australia fair.

Didn’t the Supreme Court address this in 1943? In West Virginia State Board of Education v Barnette the Court ruled that forcing students to salute the flag and say the Pledge violates the 1st Amendment.

One love.....except for Jews who he has negatively stereotyped multiple times when performing “Thrift Shop”...

None. This is a high school in Louisiana. The white kids wont do because they’ve been indoctrinated into the ‘murica culture there. And the black kids wont because they dont want to be harassed (and lets be honest, possibly worse).

Good time to get out of your seat and get an ice cold Fosters to go with your shrimp hot of the barbie.
