I don’t buy that for a second. These games can tell good stories. COD1 and 2 absolutely did.

It’s more about how a product should know what it is: an action game simply *can’t* take time to talk about deep social issues, because there’s no time to talk about culture and history in the middle of stuff blowing up, and if you try, the pacing will die and the game will be boring.

You can’t just say “let products be products” about pop culture media as though that media doesn’t actually influence how the public thinks about history and the world around them.

And let us not forget that it’s actual people, like you and me, that are putting these shallow products out there. I find it easy for me to blame the corporate monolith for these decisions, but at the root of it all, they’re hiring normal people with these ideas and everyone seems to be drinking the same koolaid.
