I got out of my small town, and I am married and child free, but when I go home I’m not a “real woman” to a lot of my peers because I’m not a parent. I have my own business, college degrees, and a way better financial situation, but I’m not an adult to them.

There is an amazing amount of positive reinforcement for girls and young women getting pregnant in my exurb. These are not financially stable adults: these are teenagers and barely post-teens working part time no benefits, or full time dead end jobs. I cannot wrap my head around it; it is madness.

Rural, here.

My guess would be that the one-time expense of an IUD or sterilization means you don’t have to rely on a continuous availability of money plus the convenience of not having to go into town for a doctor’s permission slip to get pills or to the one pharmacy to buy condoms from Mister Gregg whose daughter

Probably less access to abortion too.

Good move, TBS. Give us unending seasons of Angie Tribeca instead please.

*Countdown to a comment about Louie CK not being as bad as Weinstein in 5, 4, 3....

People will complain that women should be saying it, that men have no place talking about an issue they don’t know anything about. Or to quote that other commenter up there who said it better than me: “Exactly, if one of these men used the podium to speechify, the article would be: “Note to Hollywood Men, for just 3

Yeah that’s hard to say. You’d think maybe since Sara Gilbert is EP-ing on the show, but I guess it really comes down to how much creative control Roseanne herself has over the show.

Yes, I am looking at all these comments like, none of these people are white and from the working class. Its really not a stretch that they would be Trump supporters.

Wasn’t there also an episode where Jackie got beat up by her boyfriend and Dan went to literally go beat the fucker to death? I have some vague recollection of that as well. This was not a sunshine and rainbows show demonstrating the hardscrabble life of the working class. There was real shit on that show, and some of

One can hope, I guess. I’m not exactly holding my breath.

I worked with a lot of union folks in the lead up to 2016, and the (white) unions members had a rather strong Trump support contingent.

I know a lot of supposedly “liberal” minded people who smoked pot, were pro union, (supposedly) against racism, and still voted for Trump. It’s not as insane as it sounds.

That’s a nice thought, but Roseanne has said some pretty shitty things about trans folks, and I don’t trust her one whit to be cool about it in the show. Especially given that now she’s inserting Trump into the mix.

Yes, exactly!! Like, remember the episode where Dan has to confront the fact that he has some internal racist bias? This show was not just escapism and the Conners weren’t always a reflection of what we want to see.

Have you not met white people before? Hate strikes have been a thing for a longgggg time. Being “pro-union” or “liberal” doesn’t necessarily lead to being pro-people of color or pro-human decency.

The thing is, the original show was all about this the whole time. That the Connors are Trump supporters shouldn’t be a shock to anyone. They’re the prototypical definition of a Trump supporter. Just because they went from being working poor to solidly wealthy in the last season doesn’t change that, it wouldn’t change

I wonder how much time Roseanne Conner will devote to transphobia, as well? I figured the reboot was going to be flavorless pap, but now it sounds like she’s going to make it actually repulsive, and so I’m forced to wonder how many of her terrible views are going to be shoehorned into this DOA turd?
