The not-being-allowed-to-take-Communion-if-you-aren't-a-Catholic is totally a thing. A church my sister used to attend specifically states that fact in little flyers in the pews (along with other "helpful" etiquette tips that basically boiled down to "don't dress like a slut, girls!").

Agreed with lunchcoma on this one. I was raised Catholic, but didn't marry in the church and am not practicing, so I consider it disrespectful to the tradition to go up for Communion when I go to church with my family (rarely).
