“We beat the British with nothing more than just a bunch of dissidents.”
This is literally the whitest thing I have ever heard. Ever. And I listen to bluegrass music regularly.
How will we get young people and nblack people to vote for Republicans? I know! The young folk like that rap music. Doesn’t sound like music to me (har!) but they seem to like it.
I work for Planned Parenthood. Every time something else like this comes out, I breathe a short sigh of relief that my job is a little safer..... ya know, because no one will vote for these people, right? RIGHT?! =( please confirm
That was painful. I'd rather have my prostate checked by Edward Scissorhands than listen to that again.
Dude, STFU. Has it occurred to you that women downplay the sensation side of things precisely because idiots like you crow on and on about how you don’t want to wear one because your dick wouldn’t feel as good, while the consequences of unprotected sex fall disproportionately on women (ahem, PREGNANCY)? It’s a…
I’m pretty sure you tuned out before you heard the rest of the sentence - it doesn’t lessen sensation if you compare it with not having sex at all.
Have you had sex with women?
No one has ever denied that condoms suck, but they suck less than HIV. How does this have anything to do with feminism? You’re an idiot.
What? I’m a woman and feminist and I’ve always known that condoms suck. Sometimes they are necessary, but yeah, it’s always better without them. Just not so much better that I’m willing to risk an STD!
Poetic without being pretentious is the perfect way to describe it. When I think of her work I think of this aspect, because as a reader I usually have a low tolerance for a poetic voice and prefer a blunt, prosaic voice, but she is the exception. I actually luxuriate in her work.
I heard the news today and was very sad. I’ve only read one of her books, but it influenced me quite a bit. It’s not every day you can point at something and say, ‘this is the reason for my fetish’. Google tells me that loads of her works dealt with the same subject matter, so now I’ll always regret not contacting her…
Very good writer - I have about 30 of her books. The Night’s Master, Death’s Master, etc series is great.
I posted this earlier in another thread, but this is probably the book that first hooked me on Lee’s work, luring me in with a beautiful Michael Whelan cover but capturing me with her exquisite prose and darkly romantic sensibility.
Was it this?
This bizarre persona of mine you see before you is partly Tanith Lee’s fault. Her horror stories, her vampire tales, they made an indelible mark on me. She taught me so much as a writer, as a girl, as a person. I am gutted she’s gone but I am so, so thankful for what she gave us. Incredible author, incredible person.
actually this predates the medieval period by several thousand years, and isn’t necessarily patriarchal stuff, aside from the fact that the dna method used to determine this data looks at the y chromosome. We can track female geneology through mitochondrial dna and find common female ancestors that many are descended…
Betty reminds me of my mom too because I always thought Betty would have been a lot happier just being a jet setting model and not settling down. But women just really didn’t do that back then. The same with my mom. The thwarted ambition (she wanted to join the WACS but my grandmother said no and after that she wanted…
I’m one of the people who does like Betty, but I wasn’t surprised. She smokes all the time. Really, in many ways Betty reminds me of my grandmother (so many of her things were practically replicas of my grandmother’s), and one of those similarities is that she was never far from her cigarette case. My grandmother…
I just watched this episode last night. I don’t think Betty is the terrible person people think she is. I think she is the person people expected her to be in that time. She reminds me of my mom in many ways, trapped into a role she didn’t really want, but felt obligated to do, and pissed about it. She is of course…
