Isn't "Othering" a valid point to be raised? Dismissing it as "sanctimonious" ignores that certain media narratives carry racist undertones. One that Jezebel isn't immune to.

Vegetarian dogs will "sicken and die young"?
Well, respectfully then, fuck you too. How do you know I don't have aspergers?
Wait a sec...by that logic we can eat people who have aspergers!?
Except that if we're relying on the intelligence argument, with dogs as the (somewhat arbitrary?) baseline, then we're going to have to quit eating pigs...
Nah. Feelings count too.
Heh. "Gringo Bingo". I lol'd.
naw. none of the above.
Listen, "dear", (what other gendered nicknames do you like to condescend with, you supporter of women, you).
Your paragraph is a bit confusing. You point out that experiences are heterogenous, but then you make blanket statements regarding judgment like "well, they do stuff to us, so why can't we do stuff to them".
You could instead ask women if they want to wear the the hijab. Regardless of mens' preferences. Their bodies. Their choices.
While its important to think critically about violence against women globally, we have to be careful how western voices "other" non-western cultures when discussing these issues.
"her shirt would be unacceptable in any of the courtrooms I practice in".
If there is a "cultural explanation" for misogyny, it's a global one.
I don't think their tone is patronizing at all. It is super important to point out Orientalist Feminism that pops up in western narratives such as these. To prevent racism from masquerading as feminism.
That's not what I said at all. The conclusion is yours; as are the mental gymnastics.
Indeed, the discussion here is Iran. As covered in this instance by Western interests, who, as Sizor sister points out, makes a lot of Iranian and other Muslim women uncomfortable because they associate "de-veiling" with freedom and "covering up" with oppression. My point is that we need to be critical of who is…
"but it is not allowed for anyone, regardless of gender or religious affinity."
"Please note that the countries with hijab "ban" laws you listed are exclusively focused on public schools and sometimes workers in public spaces"
Actually, several western countries have imposed (or are attempting to impose) strict modesty policies of another kind. They are forcing Muslim women to de-veil. See for example Turkey, France, Canada and Germany.
