Clearly they don't; if they wanted to try new things, they wouldn't reuse characters and gameplay from two totally different universes, mash them together, and slap a price tag on it...

He's not fat; if he was fat, the belly would be wider than the shoulders. It's a style of design. In TWW, most, if not all characters were emphasized at the head and chest level. They tapered the characters down to the feet, which were all really small. It's kind of like Chibi.

These two costume designs are my favorite; but I love Zelda's character in Skyward Sword, despite hating the game because of the fucking motion controls and heavy Japanese-y atmosphere... it just seemed out of place in the universe.
