So, is the site actually going to disappear at some point, or does it remain here for eternity, waiting to be stumbled upon from time to time by e-archaeologists of the future?

Big feelings about Jez’s abrupt closure. I found the site over 10 years ago when I quit Facebook and needed a new way to spend time online. I didn’t think I’d find a community that entertained, amused, inspired, and challenged me.
Thanks for years and years of articles that helped shape my way of thinking. It’s a damn shame.
Guess you'll have to find some other site to be a cunt. Might I suggest X?
But the quality of the commentariat remained pretty damn good.
There are no greys here at Splinter. I am the caretaker and I decree it so.
Depressing but not surprising. Been waiting for this since G/O and Herb took over.
I’ve yet to recover from Splinter’s closure. Shocking that Jez is gone now too.
OMG what?!?! I’ve been a daily reader since 2005/Free Katie days. TODAY is the first time I’m commenting. I’m so sad! So many great interviews and necessary snark. I’m a librarian and your author/book reviews were great.
Pour one out for Jez, even if I was never let out of the greys
I am the caretaker at Splinter, which is still online with fully functioning Kinja comment sections. I will ungrey any Jezebel mourners who wish to leave condolences at the Splinter link below. My customary mode is funereal, so this will be no imposition.
RIP Jezebel. With some of the Gawker sites not taking comments anymore (Quartz, The Root, Deadspin), and the departure of Lifehacker, there’s very little reason to believe all of Gawker isn’t doomed. What a disappointment - this place used to be great.
They killed it without any warning or send-off on purpose, to show that they not only didn’t respect or value Splinter, but that they had open contempt for its content and its staff.
This.
How Splinter and Deadspin were handled was atrocious, the having Splinter go dead and having no announcement whatsoever was shitty on the part of Spamfiller and Madman. They should have dropped in a post like this when they pulled the plug.
True words. I miss it daily.
Shutting down the only dedicated politics website in your portfolio right before the 2020 election, one of the most consequential of our lifetime, kicks into high gear. Essentially shutting down the second-most highly trafficked website in your portfolio because one out of every twenty five posts rankles you. I’m not…
Splinter was a damn good website.
