I’m all for a good, dark, violent film. But the trailer for this was so tiresome. It felt like the worst aspects of several recent worst trends in film.

I envision him as the human tech who receives the transmitted minds of the robots on a space station where they will plan their final attack on humanity. Maybe he falls in love with someone. I dunno.
The Denis film sounds far more intriguing. I know I’ll have to watch them to make up my mind, but everything I’ve read so far about A STAR IS BORN and FIRST MAN make me think they are prestige grabs that ultimately won’t be very memorable. But hey, we’ll see.
Nicely stated, Squamate.
Absolutely LOVE the original. Can never remember very much about 2 (which I’m going to re-watch tonight). REALLY enjoyed the Rodriguez flick (great cast, great idea, solid execution, nifty closure), and I always find it odd that it rarely gets any mention. So, I have to say I’m really looking forward to this. Knowing…
I know nothing about campaigning, hence this curiosity: what happens to unused funds?
As someone who hasn’t been in a relationship or had sex in many years, I have often considered sex workers, but always balked out of fear of the stigma of doing so (let alone the criminal factor). But it does make me wonder how a story like this would sound if a male artist had stated that, while on tour, he was…
That coyote is really a crazy clown. When will he learn that he never can mow him down?
Commenting on the real world is fine; in my opinion, giving that dangerous, ignorant, racist buffoon any acknowledgement is a mistake.
I’m not going to pretend to know enough about the Batman canon to understand why Wayne’s dad would be pivotal in any way in a Joker film. But let’s assume they can make that feel right.
Look, I know all these things are subjective, and conversely driven by business needs. But from strictly a cinematic POV, BP was highly enjoyable and a cultural win, but it was not great cinema. If it won a popularity contest I couldn’t argue, but I really don’t care about that. I hold out hope that the best…
Why is this such a fucking surprise? Not all films are stream-available, but a hell of a lot are available on disc.
Please, people, can we stop focusing on this woman’s appearance? Whatever she is, or looks like to you, it’s her *actions* that require attention. And those are loathsome. If we play that game of making fun of someone’s appearance we risk losing ground when it comes time to make the argument against true injustices.…
I’m upset with Disney for not doing a better job of deciding what they can live with and what they can’t, or more to the point, investigating who they hire better when wanting to add a person to the money-making behemoth that is Marvel films. I think they could have handled this better, even if that meant looking into…
A shame he couldn’t just create something original.
It pleases me greatly that sad-sack Scott Lang might be instrumental in saving the universe because he happened to be trapped in the quantum realm when the snap occurs.
My rule when doing this is to include a film if its wide release falls within said year, so my list starts with HOSTILES and PHANTOM THREAD, two exquisite films that for me will be hard to beat (and didn’t arrive in my neck of the woods until their wide releases in January).
This felt strangely like a show that isn’t returning. Has a third season been confirmed?
PUNISHER was great. Not perfect, but great. It was miles ahead of IRON FIST and DEFENDERS, and much of LUKE CAGE.
Love your choice of photo. Gut-laughing at that semi-arch glance.
