Just watched Folding Ideas' take on the film, which gives away EVERY detail. And I have to say, the talent show act of the dead smart kid's little brother sounds surreal and ridiculous, on top of everything that has come before it.

I still maintain RED STATE is a deeply under-appreciated film.

It's a shame Willis can't put his heart into it and for every 2-3 shit-shows commit himself fully to a showier performance.

I have a thing for films about painters but your first paragraph made me want to never watch this. At some point I'll probably try it. But %$#@ that seems depressing.

I don't mind if you say someone (male or female) is attractive in your film review - as long as you're not lewd about it. But I would like for that thought to be considerably less important than how the film works/is constructed/is acted/makes one feel.

No, it's just a superhero movie. With a female lead. Remove the female lead (and director?) and you have a film that hits most of the same beats as anything that came before it.

Oh yeah, I'm familiar. Thx

Music - when used at all - plays such a strong role in an effective trailer, underlying or punctuating images. I've watched this several times and apart from trying to make out everyone in each cut, I keep coming back to how much the music is giving me that really special chill that makes me want to see a film next

Wait…there was a sequel to Zorro??

The first 30 minutes of this one reminded me how much I loved the L.A. episode, because it completely removed someone from the dull, washed-out land of idiots and terminators.

My father's parents lived there for many years, so, actually, I'm as familiar with it as any other town where we visited relatives several times a year for much of my childhood.

It's sad to think that a city's name is immediately connected with tragedy. Reading that headline without benefit of the image, there should have been more than one thing this film might have been about.

Thanks for mentioning JOE. That is one hell of a movie, and Cage is really strong in it. Like, better-than-I'd-seen-him-in-years good.

I love that this topic turned into "which Texas college sucks more"…as a Texas Tech alumnus, I gladly accept your assessment.

Love hearing you guys talk, but why the 2-minute wait before the full show?

Something Something Explosion said "Maher is just something of a smug, condescending asshole, one who can't
hide behind a character like Colbert, and doesn't display any sense of
nuance or compassion like Stewart." And that's a pretty valid take on the guy. But don't forget he's stayed employed for almost a straight

I assume the IRS does not like to be so obviously mocked, and we will see Mr. Linklater return sooner or later.

As a fan of Lynch's films, I anticipated that The Return would be more cinematic thanks to being on Showtime, and I would therefore enjoy it more than the original series, which I considered well-made but quickly spun off into far too many uninteresting (for me) subplots. But Return episodes 1 & 2 really wore me down.

It says a lot about how strong GET OUT was that I had heard so much positive chatter about it I expected to be disappointed, but man, I dug that movie.

I started watching the original the other night because I was incredibly tired and Netflix had it. Easy pickings. I didn't have strong memories of or feelings for the film, probably because of everything that followed. I found it to be largely bland, with moments of whimsy that were more rewarding than the intended
