i moved from appalachian virginia to alaska. its wayy more redneck here.

alaskans are first in something other than std rates, gun ownership, alcohol abuse, and domestic violence. im so proud of us.

yeah actually pwc are surprisingly popular in alaska too

drinking liquid morphine in antarctica sounds awesome. of course, i am an arctic research technician and live out of remote field camps for months at a time.

or a snogo, depending on your climate

in my experience, most small towns have some sort of roadside produce stand where you can find these things. Up until 10 years ago, i’d say they were among the ONLY places you could find these things.

the taste is quite a bit better, the waste is much much less, the cost is about half, and no worries about what kind of chemicals are in your can liners.

if you cook a lot of whole grains and legumes, its a great investment. I’ve almost entirely given up on canned beans since getting an instant pot, and with a vegan wife we eat a LOT of beans.

55 minutes for black beans?? I do manual high pressure 27 minutes. I did 30 once and they turned out mushy. No, I do not pre-soak.

dried beans and rice

most people here are in the “well yeah its changing but how do we know humans did it” camp

on a cross country drive, i got to my hotel in indiana. i asked where i could find a beer close by. upon finding out i could not buy beer on sunday, i turned around and drove back to kentucky.

Look, its not that i don’t trust a computer more than joe-blow running bald tires eatin a big mac screamin down icy roads in a truck with a hockey puck lift, but it goes beyond pulling over in a rainstorm. These are real, unaddressed scenarios that could potentially make these sensors inoperable for months at a time.

yes. it is 100% climate change. we watch the effects of a changing climate every single day in alaska. its real, its already happening.

my uncle had one, either a 76 or 77, stingray. i only saw him once a year, but he always made sure he had it warmed up for me so he could take me for a ride.

my granddads all black deville, my uncle’s 76 stingray, my cousin’s 92 firebird, and my dads 81 blazer

i often leave a baggie when i’m leaving a city, i always hope it finds its way to someone in need

checked luggage is not the way to go, man. it seems counter intuitive but carry that shit on.

area wise, you are wrong, but population center wise you are right. Most of interior alaska is bitter cold with winters that go from october to may. most of the cheap land is poorly draining land underlain by permafrost, which creates problems with building foundations, roadways, and septic systems.

i don’t think its possible in other states, at least not in the way the PFD works. It is based on mineral rights that we as alaskans surrendered at statehood. The money made from sellingthese rights goes into “the permanent fun” which is invested by a corporation. The dividends are given to us yearly. Usually it is
