last i checked, Tacoma is still west of Rainier. Sun rises over Rainier and sets over the Olympics.

Best Six Feet Under opening ever.

Whew...my first thought: "BOOGERS!!!"

Larry Niven's "Man of Steel, Woman of Kleenex" taught me a great deal about physiology, both human and Kryptonian.

Yikes! Sure hope we don't get Plutoed!

Indeed, yay for the future and happy birthday io9. But, i'm still waiting for my jetpack and my flying, folding car....

if you're a 907 person, Canada is your neighbor to the east, isn't it?

Agreed—twas the other Observer tapping, whilst Windmark shot him a pointed look.

It's not from science fiction, but it should be—1930 Henderson. Details: http://tinyurl.com/24vlfct

kinda OT—but anybody here remember the Estes Saturn V model rocket? Stood about three feet tall—wicked detail. My middle school had a model rocketry class and a chum built one of those. He was rightfully proud; it was awesome. Then he tried to fly it. One of the engines misfired on takeoff. Rocket went up about five

At the Ysyakh Festival in Yakutsk (Republic of Sakha) in 1994, I had roast horse. I was also able to try kumiss, the fermented mare's milk beverage of the steppes. Horse was bland and stringy, but the kumiss was very good—like a light, effervescent, buttermilk. A perfect summertime beverage.

Well, we used to. Lately, not so much.

Stubbs the cat has been the mayor of Talkeetna, Alaska, for 15 years. He was voted in as a kitten, thanks to a write-in campaign from residents dissatisfied with the crop of human candidates. Here's a link to a recent CNN story: http://www.cnn.com/2012/07/17/us/alaska-cat-mayor/index.html

All that design and engineering for mooty calls?

uhhh..Oxygen *Baron*, perhaps?

National Geographic has really lost their way with 'Chasing UFOs.' The teaser is ridiculous, but it's the best thing about the series so far. NatGeo used to mean quality production and content. This show has neither. Alexander Scourby and Jacques Cousteau must be rolling in their graves.

I'm GUMBY, dammit!!
