Counterpoint, if that’s a blonde white girl wearing the sweatshirt, there’s no issue, so why is it an issue when a little black boy wears it? Maybe I’m naive, but isn’t the best way to move past racism to stop assuming that anything that COULD be racist IS racist? It’s a freaking kids shirt based on animals/zoo

LOL good catch, I couldn’t figure out what bugged me about that stupid sentence (pre-coffee), thank you for solving it for me.

It’s VERBAL consent.

I read this this morning and was honestly kind of galled that the NYT published it. Read the article for more on her critiques on verbal consent:

This. Donald Fucking Trump is the fucking president and they’re asking, “Yeah, but is she the RIGHT democrat to go up against a piece of shit?”

Bros won’t vote for any woman. They will always find a bullshit reason for why they can’t support her.

She’s shown better instincts over the last year than any other Democrat in the Senate. Better than Sanders, Booker, Harris, Warren, or whoever we’re supposed to be pulling for. I care more about that than what she was doing in upstate NY in the 90's.

This song sounds completely indistinguishable from every royalty-free song used in the background of every commercial for low-end regional mall stores in the last 15 years.

Sorry for her loss, I’m sure it will make a good-selling book.

I think she’s got some kind of personality disorder and this was more about her and her story then it was about a dying friend.

Yes! I agree w the OP but I also agree with this and was wondering if anyone else noticed that! Did Gilbert even see Elias as her own person?

Immediate grief responses can be pretty self-oriented. Folks get pulled into their pain and longing when they lose someone they love: I want them, I miss them, I hurt. It’s overwhelming, to say the least.

She is making Rayya’s death about her instead of Rayya. Almost every word was “my”. It makes you wonder what Gilbert ever did for Rayya since it seems like Rayya did all the giving and Elizabeth did all the taking.

I suppose so, but Gilbert was centered in the article itself, so naturally she’ll be the subject of much of the article’s comments.

It is sad that Rayya died so young. Elizabeth Gilbert is insufferable and will make this all about Elizabeth for her next obnoxious book.

None of us has time for denying our unique truths. But we do. Humans, amirite?

I can’t stand Liz Gilbert (she’s basically Wordy Goop to me) but this is sad - 57 is way too young to go. Pancreatic cancer is vicious.

She should have won the whole season. But Rupaul always goes for the safe choice for winner.

Katya better play Princess Di...

I’m sure you’re 181% pure magic.
