As a lifelong Star Trek fan, I wanted him to do well. But he’d probably be fine after a month or so of hosting, even with the rocky performance he put in. I wasn’t thrilled with Ken Jennings’ start, but by the end of his six-week run he’d improved considerably. Likewise, I wasn’t particularly enthused with Mayim

You can either heal from trauma or constantly try to win the trauma Olympics where no one else’s experiences matter because yours were worse. He never once compared wearing a dress to violent murder.

Juno didn’t seem androgynous at all, the character basically dressed like most girls I knew at the time

The search for a new host by Mike Richards - and his declaration that he was the perfect choice - always reminds me of Dick Cheney’s search for a VP during George W. Bush’s 2000 election campaign. Bill Maher did a great bit on it, back when he was sane (or saner):

If we wanna get technical, Mayim is the sole host, with Ken guesting every few weeks. This will likely change next season, but as of now, that’s how it is.

What’s sad is there are no real game show hosts anymore, just celebrities. A host was a professional broadcaster. So the whole search was just kinda dumb and random anyway, and the fact that Richards chose himself was the cherry on top.

After three episodes, my opinion so far is the plotting decisions of this series are pretty terrible. Centering a show around Leia being kidnapped and Obi-Wan having to confront Vader while rescuing her is dumb because we know Leia is going to survive, we know Obi-Wan is going to survive, and we know Obi-Wan and

That wasn’t even the most brutal thing! When he’s choking out that dad for no reason, the son runs out, and he snaps his fucking neck! WOW. ON A DISNEY SHOW TOO. Vader is literally just walking around town randomly killing people.

Of course it was never a competition. It was a publicity stunt straight from the start. Hence why more veteran game show hosts like Brooke Burns or Meredith Viera were never invited to be guest hosts. Hell, the fact that it was a “tryout” at all was all pure fan speculation. The show itself did not mention it

Indeed.  God bless ‘em for that.  And, though this is a Disney+ show, it’s been surprisingly brutal and violent.  Probably as far as we’ll ever see the franchise go.  Certainly on the small screen.

One thing I’ve definitely liked about the Disney era is that they make sure Darth Vader is the scariest, most brutal motherfucker in the room every time he shows up.

When he dragged Obi-Wan through the fire using the Force, I was like “JESUS!!!”

Having Obi Wan and Vader meet between III and IV was always a major sticking point for me. But it’s pretty much a fait accompli at this point, as it’s been endlessly discussed in the pre-release hype.

Not just sunscreen and smoking, but living through two world wars and the accompanying famine that was prevalent in both (at one point in WW2 the UK was less than a week away from exhausting it’s food supplies and having to choose which citizens to starve) wars, during and after the fighting, the great depression,

Yeah. Leia’s message is Leia in diplomatic mode, but when Luke comes into the detention block he says something like, “I’m here to rescue you. I’ve got your R2 Unit... I’m here with Ben Kenobi.” At which point she excitedly shouts, “Ben Kenobi is here! Where is he?” Which implies that her connection to Obi-Wan is more

Yeah, they took the one thing I think everyone hated from Last Jedi and seemingly turned it into the whole show. The world is full of jaded people who have given up on trying to do good, I don't need it in my entertainment.

I think it’s worth noting when you raise the point that Reva’s plan is fairly half baked is that... the show itself knows it’s half-baked. The Grand Inquisitor is PISSED at her because of how half-baked it is, because even in this era you can’t just go and kidnap a prominent Senator’s daughter to use as bait.

Episode 2

The more interesting thing is how the tropes of fantasy storytelling have changed since 1977. Obi-Wan hanging around the desert for decades keeping an eye on Luke is lifted from Lord of the Rings (as is the idea of a far-flung agrarian community being shaken up by a terrible weapon). It’s a throwback to a more settled

Oh man they had an incredible opportunity to make this a “Fugitive” style series where Obi-Wan goes planet-hopping in between checking on Luke to do anonymous good deeds while staying one step ahead of the Jedi hunters. And sounds like they fucking blew it to shoehorn in more existing characters.

Howard was the Skyler of the series is spot on for a lot of reasons, but the consensus seems to have reached “he’s actually a very good person” pretty unanimously by S6. Largely because unlike Skyler, he became (was revealed to be?) actually liable, rather than just mostly sympathetic.

Though I’d argue that he still
