I don't know what alternate reality you live in, but in mine, the PhD holder is rarely the breadwinner. The blue collar worker is much more likely to be employed in secure, gainful work.

Agreed, I have a Bachelor's degree and a Master's, and I make substantially less than friends of mine who started working right out of high school and gradually moved up. I would bet that there are many women who do what I did, and many men who do the latter. It won't explain much of the gap wages between genders, but

Belyaev previously worked for the Department of Fur Animal Breeding in Moscow before his experiments started that's where my confusion was. I had the understanding that he started the experiments while still working there.

I think "in front of owners face" is the only real requisite.

With atheism, as with science it's the other way around to what you're describing - you don't accept a hypothesis (there is a God) without sufficient evidence. What you do in the meantime is accept the null hypothesis (there is no God). It makes more sense to believe something doesn't exist until proven otherwise

I think if there were a video I would seriously lose my mind.

Things my cat does this with: Books, laptop, kobo, Nintendo DS, my dinner. This cat is going to fit into a new home just fine. :)

Now I have a Kobo my urge to binge-read has definitely come in. BTW The last book my partner read, almost 15 years ago was one of The Wheel of Time series. It was on his bedside table when we first got together and was never finished, and I think it put him off books forever. :(

We have kept dogs as pets for about 14,000 years. In that time they have undergone major changes as a result of selective breeding. So yes, to get the dog to the point it is at today, took thousands of years.

Plenty more where that came from!!

Sorry, I can be a bit of a downer on squee sometimes! Don't mind me!

Yeah it's crazy isn't it? That the piebald white blazes and paws on our pets probably only showed up because they are linked to desirable temperament? It blows my mind.

I think you could argue they have been, to an extent. Probably again by fur farms and the like.

Well, domestication is a tricky thing, normally we reserve that label for animals that have been modified over thousands of years, like cats or dogs - foxes generally haven't undergone this process. But a fur farm in Russia sped the process up by choosing only the absolute sweetest, easiest to handle foxes to breed

OK - I propose: Team Fox. For those on the fence.

Interesting fact, foxes only really wag their tales like that after selective breeding that imitates the usually very long process of domestication. I think the whining is also connected to that. Pretty cute!

It's not so often that a woman is allowed to play a common idiot without going into bimbo territory. When she interviews experts it's so reminiscent of Ali G, but she's made it her own.

Now playing

The new bit "Moments of Wonder"? It's unbearably funny.

whereas the women are a revolving door of generically pretty reality show hostesses with the exact same ombre hairstyle.

Thanks, I'm flattered but very sorry to have caused your untimely demise. :)
