Well, if you’ve had any firearm training, you learn that in a high stress situation shooting accurately can be very difficult because fine motor skills are impaired by adrenaline. Even the police have pretty shitty accuracy when it comes to line of duty shootings.

You can usually legally buy a gun outside of your home state, if it is a long gun, but it depends on the state. Handguns, which are most often used in violent crimes are not able to be bought out if state without a FFL transfer, even at gun shows. Gun shows do however make it easier for straw purchases to happen.
