California’s “plan to secede” is nothing more than overdramatic nonsense, and barely worth discussing - even on Jezebel.

There is no discourse with white supremacists.
Yeah, sorry. Nothing is going to change Richard Spencer’s mind, he’s already as entrenched in his beliefs as he can be and he’ll continue spouting lies and hate no matter what anyone does. Trump’s candidacy and election has become, in the minds of white supremacists, the “all clear” for them to crawl out from the…
Well, look at it this way - he only stopped talking for a few seconds. He’s right back at it, spewing his bile and hatred.
Yes, I am sure that your “bitter pill to swallow” support of HRC did *tons* to change the hearts and minds of your friends.
I concede that point.
Still better than Trump on her worst day.
It wasn’t Trump that killed America; it was us. All of us. No one gets to walk away from this with their conscience clean. America called on us to do our best, and what we gave her was a half-hearted attempt. Even you, with your “petty” hand-wringing over Hillary Clinton. You cried and moaned about how you just…
John Lewis vs Everybody? More like John Lewis vs a relatively small collection of racists and misguided idiots. The support for John Lewis has been far, far stronger than the criticism.
Yeah, but we don’t have to pay attention to every single thing he does, and we don’t have to reward his petulant, childish nonsense on Twitter with the same level of attention that we reserve for things that actually matter.
You don’t want to have a conversation about race. What you want to do is lecture a white person about racism, while the white person sits quietly, says nothing, and allows you to make them feel bad/guilty for being white. You want white people to listen, and then sit in their wrongness and be wrong.
Which is exactly why I am stuck in this loop to begin with. What Trump says about x or y on Twitter is always inflammatory and childish, and usually takes attention away from more important things. But it also just adds to the long, long list of reasons that he is unfit for the position that he is about to assume.
In the case of Meryl Streep’s comments (sorry, but I refuse to call it a ‘gate’) there were all these talking heads and other people going on about how Meryl Streep isn’t overrated and Robert DeNiro wrote a letter and on and on, and it takes attention away from things that are *far* more important. On the other hand,…
White people! Are you feeling good about yourself today? Maybe a little *too* good? Don’t worry - The Root is here for you! Click on down and you’ll be treated to lectures about how you’re actually not all that great - you’re fragile, violent and childish, and whether you’re actually a racist or not - you’re a racist!…
Gosh, I don’t know about you guys but I am starting to sense a theme with the articles on The Root about MLK today. It’s subtle, to be sure, but I think I’m starting to figure it out. #mlkwasagainstviolencebutsincewereallsuperangryrightnowletswritearticlesabouthowmlkwasntreallyagainstviolence
Thanks for the straightforward response and I see your point. He just thrives on any kind of attention and part of me wants to see that attention taken away from him; to see him ignored or dismissed.
I am curious; has there ever been a discussion at Jezebel along the lines of “At what point do we just stop giving Trump’s crybaby tweets attention?” - I mean he’s obviously gonna fart out one of these every. single. time. someone says something critical about him or makes fun of him. Do you see yourself writing one…
There’s another unifying theme here. From “I believe in the Podesta sex ring” to “Hillary is coming to take away all my guns” to “Trump is the lesser of two evils” - Trump voters, from the ones you feature in this article, to the ones I’ve seen on TV, to the ones I personally know, all have beliefs that are just plain…
Curly hair and a crooked smile. We need to find our goddamn human kindness.
