But I said that. I said “I don’t dislike trans people but...” And your response was some vague complaint about how I’m trying to tell you your feelings.

This is the last I’ll speak on this. You seem to think that every person incarcerated magically gets every medical need of theirs taken care of. Well I got news for you: they don’t. It doesn’t always happen.

It’ll be her problem.

I can say that your “I don’t dislike trans people but I do question whether their treatments are a good thing” holds about as much water as the Christians’ line of “love the sinner, hate the sin”.

That’s bullshit and you’re putting words in my mouth. I NEVER insinuated transgender people’s issues weren’t real or worth treating. I said I think being dead or severely disabled and reliant on others for things like using the bathroom is worse than being denied sex reassignment surgery and I think most transgender

Will she die, be in extreme physical pain or be physically crippled if she does not get the surgery? If the answer is no, than it is elective.

While I agree with you on the ideal of single-payer healthcare coverage for all and an end to mass incarceration, realistically public healthcare funds are limited and overstretched. It is a zero sum game because there simply aren’t enough funds allocated to treat everyone that needs treatment. Essentially this means

It’s rare that people undergo surgery for depression, though. I’m not saying that there should be no treatment, just that the most invasive and expensive treatments should be for physical maladies without other options. For example, gastric bypass surgery has been demonstrated as a possible cure for diabetes, but it

By saying that you don’t believe trans folks’ plight to be “real” enough to merit treatment, you’re dismissing not just the issues of trans prisoners, but also those faced by folks out in the general population.

Personally I feel that healthcare for people with debilitating and life-threatening injuries should be a priority before the government covers the costs of sex reassignment surgery. While I do believe sex reassignment surgery is necessary I just believe cancer treatment, artery bypass and spinal surgeries are more

Unfortunately this takes place in a country in which 41,000,000 people who have not killed anyone still don’t have health insurance. Poor people here still die for want of antibiotics. Talk about cruel ....

I definitely do not think prisoners should be getting Viagra. I am willing to make a very firm stand on this.

Do all insurances cover it? I’m trying to decide if prison medical coverage could be considered a medical insurance. If it’s not a standard covered procedure, then I don’t know that I think inmates need to receive more comprehensive medical coverage than some non criminals receive, regardless of what that treatment is

In prison, though? I highly doubt that many states are paying for prisoners to have elective surgeries, and if they are, I’d have to question that choice.

Of all the things you can pick to worry about, it’s the idea of freeing a 51 year old who’s spent 30 years in jail for killing a friend in a bar fight that has you clutching your pearls?

I didn’t say anything about prescription medicines, and I doubt the prison system is paying for dental services that don’t involve diseased teeth (cavities, periodontal disease, root canals, etc.). If taxpayers are footing the bill for teeth whitening, then yeah, I have a problem with that.

I can’t get on board with taxpayers footing the bill for sex re-assignment surgery. However someone feels about their body, it is still functional, and there is no guarantee that surgery will solve their dysphoria or that it won’t lead to other complications. I think 30 years is probably enough time served for a bar

This is really interesting stuff and I have to admit my first response was cruel and unusual punishment hmmm no. And then because first responses are stupid I thought about it and I can absolutely see that being stuck in the wrong body could be torture is not paying for surgery punishment? I’m not sure I entirely see

WHAT PRACTICES? You mean the totally legal and not-secret practice of donating fetal tissue for scientific research? The only deplorable thing that happened is that A VIDEO THAT WAS EDITED TO MAKE IT SEEM LIKE SOMETHING THAT DOESN’T HAPPEN WAS HAPPENING WAS RELEASED.

I respect human life, and I do not want Alabama to be associated with an organization that does not.
