I dunno, if you get any college admissions officer drunk, they’ll probably tell you that admissions offices are trying to find ways to stop programs from being disproportionately Asian. This is especially a problem with short (1-year) STEM Masters’ programs open to international students, so 80-90% of applicants will…
You can draw a direct line between the hostile policies and rhetoric against immigrants that are happening nationally, and here in our state, to events like what happened today.
That’s not very hot. It was 105f here yesterday.
Reminder that it’s possible to believe both that O.J. Simpson killed two people in 1994 and that the Nevada parole board did its job correctly today
This site has been strangely silent about a particular march in Chicago.... They really enjoy discussing anti-semetism in regards to the alt-right and conservatives but bring up anything regarding the left’s issues with anti-semetism and enabling anti-semetic actions in Western countries and it’s absolute radio…
Second thought: Maybe if US advertisers see that the UK does just fine with advertising that follows these rules, they might also slowly begin to follow suit.
Holy shit I’m glad you’re a *former* administrator. You’re a despicable human being and the best thing I can say about your is that you are no longer in a position to ruin people’s lives.
I think the larger issue is not so much the crosshair bit, which almost boils down to a question of semantics. Instead, I think it’s that in combination with the fact that the Times erroneously suggested that there was a direct (as opposed to circumstantial) link between the mailer and the shoot. They effectively said…
Hey! I think you’re onto something!
I’m so glad they’re taking so long on this... WAIT, hear me out before you get out the pitchforks and torches! See, here’s the thing. If it had been an hour or so deliberating, he’d have that question over his head of whether the jury was just so inundated with ‘Bad Cosby’ coverage that they just went with what they…
The problem with this sort of case - a very long sequence of accusations that has pulled out one individual case - if that it’s possible (I don’t know) in this one specific case there isn’t enough evidence to prove guilt (or, indeed, he’s innocent of this specific case).
To add to the other responses given here, there are differing views on the “beyond the reasonable doubt” standard. Some people when they serve as jurors have a very hard time saying “beyond a reasonable doubt” because they see it as the insurmountable standard. The defense makes sure to feed into this sort of doubt…
Eh. It’s pretty routine for defendants to not put up a lot of witnesses and instead rely on the defense of “the state didn’t prove it.”
It’s not really fucked up though, it’s the way it should be; he’s not on trial for the rest of those rapes, he’s on trial for Constand’s rape. Imagine if every case were prosecuted like that (as many cases are when the defendant is poor and his skin is brown)—well, he may not have done this thing, but he likely did som…
“Can we get over this?”
All culture is appropriated. Period. From everyone and by everyone.
I’m pretty sure everyone agrees with you that this feels wrong. The problem is, when you are talking about passing laws, you have to think about more than how it feels, and how it will actually affect people. If we say that one culture owns all of their traditional imagery, won’t more and more cultures try to control…
It seems especially hard considering the entire history of art and design is built on artists and cultures being inspired by other artists and cultures. Rome took almost their entire culture from the Greeks and Etruscans. Every movement in art is built around many artists all inspiring one another so they have a…
Mistaken identity or miscommunication are less sleazy ways to defend a rape charge. Granted, the former doesn’t apply here, and the latter is condescending at best, but one does need a defense. In my experience I find a little empathy toward the alleged victim goes a very long way with judges and juries.
