You don’t realize that an acquittal doesn’t mean a crime didn’t occur.

So, when someone is accused of rape and not convicted, no rape occurred. Statistics prove that rape is incredibly rare and that rape culture is a myth.
This article is terrible. She didn’t “hedge” on rape. She expressed doubts about the OCR’s “guidance” letters mandating the procedures colleges have to use for adjudicating sexual assault.
Have you uh....ever encountered a public school?
Nice to know that your statistical expertise has allowed you to conclude that your relatives are a representative sample of 63 million people
Yes, ignoring 46% of the electorate is a good way to move forward. There’s absolutely no way that will come back to haunt you
If the DA won election running tv ads saying he would prosecute Cosby for rape, they really ought to find another county. That’s crazier than most crazy media trials
Oh come on everybody, reading comprehension is your friend. The comment that it’s a life-changing punishment isn’t saying that rapists shouldn’t be punished, it’s saying that before giving a life-changing punishment, the school needs to have a serious and fair process for determining whether somebody is guilty.
Is this guy in the republican camp of “let’s ban female birth control,” or the other republican camp of “let’s make birth control cheaper because then government doesn’t have to pay for it”?
White Genocide is nonesense, and this professor decided to express that sentiment in the stupidest way possible
The nondisclosure of evidence is obviously a legal problem (and that’s why his conviction was overturned), but it’s not the kind of issue Jezebel would write about. I think the main problem with the law is that while it appears to be neutral on its face, I suspect it’s often only enforced against gay men
No, he’s saying that it never happened, and that the state’s evidence gives no support to the original accusation that the defendant did it
This is a poorly-written article.
You’re the worst kind of person
Justice Brennan is fucking weeping in his grave at the sorry state of liberalism now that any kind of principled stand on criminal justice has been killed
That means nothing. Competent to stand trial does not mean not mentally ill. Mentally ill people stand trial all the damn time. That’s why there’s an insanity defense (in rare cases), and why we have caselaw about executing mentally ill people.
Of course not everybody on death row is guilty of the crimes they were convicted of, but that doesn’t really affect the “hypocrisy” of supporting the death penalty while opposing abortion. Supporters of the death penalty believe it is justified in cases where people have committed heinous crimes. That in no way…
It’s not “blatantly” unconstitutional. It’s “maybe” unconstitutional. Can the court rule as a matter of law that a fetus isn’t viable at 20 weeks! Who knows! Does a ban on abortion after 20 weeks constitute an “undue burden?” Who knows! Thanks to Casey, our abortion jurisprudence is a jumbled garbled mess! Yay!
I’m so sick of this argument. It’s patently ridiculous on its face and every time somebody makes it, opponents of abortion win by default because it makes the pro-choice movement look like it’s full of idiots.
Yeah.....no this shit is 100% religious right nuttiness
