& even more impressive considering that I'd seen a truncated version (in the commercials) about a dozen times over the past week. I thought it was funny in its super-quick, cut-down version, but the extended bit actually added something, which is hard to do.

& that the bird was named (if I recall correctly) Chesterfield. for some reason that took it to another level for me.

I thought the little stand-up bits in between sketches were stronger tonight overall (including that one, & the "pack of African Americans" one mentioned downthread).

the best part was the obvious "I'm making this up as I go along" way that he narrated his name. "& my first name is Heinrich, so my full name is…" (I can't remember the exact wording but that slayed me.)

I had the same reaction—& then I remembered, "oh yeah, the real Burt Reynolds probably isn't constantly smacking his gum & shit-talking Alex Trebek." I didn't realize it before, but I think Boogie Nights is the only other thing I've ever seen him in.

the New Yorker recently ran a profile of film artist Tacita Dean, whose installation at the Tate Modern was (in some ways) an elegy for the dying art of celluloid. subscribers can read the whole thing, but the abstract's pretty dense. it's a fascinating piece, & it was my first introduction to the fact that this

ha! that was one of my favorites (which I'd forgotten until now).

whuups, should've scrolled down more. anyways, yes, agreed: that is the scariest episode.

Night Terrors! definitely one of the freakiest things I've ever seen anywhere (& I was an adult when I first saw the episode). the scene where Crusher's in the morgue & all of a sudden all the bodies are all sitting upright? I still get chills when I picture that.

fun fact: the motel scene was filmed at the Sun Motel, visible from I-55 at the far reaches of Chicagoland. my family loves PT&A, & would yell "those aren't pillows!" in unison every time we'd drive past it.

I think it's fair, though, to have "do we really want this person to be an Iron Chef?" among the other factors the judges evaluate. the last new Iron Chef was also pretty young, so I was skeptical of Mendelsohn's chances from the outset. if Samuelsson had botched his execution, then the decision would've been unfair,

as a wife-of-gamer whose chops have increased considerably during our cohabitation, I felt compelled to weigh in here. I agree with the Portal 2 suggestion below, & while I haven't played Resident Evil 5, I loved RE4 (& tremendously enjoyed watching/helping my husband play it back in the day).

I enjoyed last night's "I'm a taxpayer! what're you, a…sax…player?…in the band?!"

why doesn't everyone love this show?!
it bums me out that JBHV fans seem to be in the minority on the AVClub boards—I don't disagree with some of the critiques of previous episodes, but when I watched this one, I was like, "this has got to be an A." the way the show turned into a musical at the end reminded me of the

we just got it last night (despite being in the middle of Fallout: New Vegas& a couple other games) because we couldn't resist. they did a GREAT job of recapturing the old magic of the PC version; I'd almost forgotten how much I loved that game, but this version brought it all back. really good stuff.

@jhoran I don't have 40 oz & clearly I should—this thread is reminding me how much I like the Sublime album, & I've enjoyed the bits & pieces of Bradley Nowell & Friends that I've heard on our iPod.

@jhoran (& everyone else extolling the virtues of Sublime's deep cuts): no love for Caress Me Down? I actually really like most of the tracks on that album, but Caress Me Down is just fantastic: hilarious, raunchy, sing-along-with-able…it's probably my favorite Sublime song ever, & I think arguably a really good

man, I can't stop loving Tori, no matter how much I try (although I am clearly in the minority; see also: http://sadydoyle.tumblr.com…. it doesn't have the same IT'S ALL SO TRUE!!!!!!!1! appeal it used to when I was younger, but it still interests me musically (& emotionally, if I'm in A Mood), & I've been rather fond

agreed! that was absolutely my favorite part of the original, & I was so sad that there was no nod to it in Legacy. "Pretty good drivin', huh?" "…No."
