Post once again dismissed by Kara Brown:

Ms. Brown, why do you dismiss politely worded critiques all the time?

Do it. It’s hilarious. 2% sexy, 98% imaginative and hilarious.

“I have a girl squad!” — Taylor Swift, being annoying.

Ha! I and my peasant family have eaten this dish every single Christmas (post-pig-slaughtering) of my life until I moved to the US. Yes, it smells like shit!

I was just typing this in a separate reply - I bet the general tolerance to private odors was much higher. Today the least bit of smells makes you a pariah. As a person with nasal allergies, hence really poor sense of smell, I’m constantly paranoid that I’m offending others with my inevitable mammalian emissions.

Good point. I wish we had a way to test this and figure it out. But, you know, since people still had sex, I am willing to bet their tolerance to odor was significantly higher than it is today.

Right? If I smelled my colleague I wouldn’t even blink for fear I might embarrass them.

So true. I have so many questions. Ancient underwear too, I need to know everything about it.

Would people have wiped themselves down every day? It seems unlikely, even for aristocrats.

He was 12. This woman was 15. He was a student, MKL was a teacher. I see a difference between the two cases.

I agree, he did something wrong (especially according to current norms - norms obviously and fortunately evolve).

Agree with every word you typed.

“Anything less than enthusiasm is not consent.” — I so disagree with this view, and I find so dangerous. How enthusiastic do you need me to be tobe able consent, as an adult woman? If I’m shy or not so demonstrative as to say “fuck me now,” does it mean I’m not consenting? Fuck that.

At 15, she was very close to the current legal consent age. I don’t know what the law was then, in what state they had sex etc etc. You’ll have to forgive me for not seeing this as purely black and white.

Right. We’re discussing a particular case. Policy talk is a lot clearer than a somewhat murky individual case.

Absolutely. We don’t want adults having sex with children. At the same time, a young person close to legal consent age, in an era when the mores were (unfortunately) way behind what they are now — all of that suggests to me any kind of ultimate verdict on this is not going to be fair.

True, but, as an adult, she still thinks she had a great time. Her word should count for something.

Fucking debtors’ prison, fucking christ. This story is horrifying.
