I tried to go to a women’s strip club (aka the more common one) with my gal pals in college and they said we couldn’t go in without a man to accompany us. I don’t know about the legality, but it’s common.
It’s been a long time since I’ve been in any kind of club, but I think I recall seeing some signs that read “We have the right to refuse you service.” I guess I always assumed that the “right” was predicated on an assumption of disruptive behavior/ inappropriate dress or some BS like that.
Yeah my friend worked for a topless club that had a similar rule for women; they basically reserved the right to not let in women unaccompanied by men. Friend claimed this was because the club wanted their clientele to feel comfortable, which was more about dudes not seeing a “regular” woman in there who might trigger…
There is some wiggle room when it comes to gender discrimination and only allowing one gender in, but the easiest way is usually to charge a cover that is labelled a “club membership”. Private clubs are allowed to be single gender.
I know a lot of female strip clubs don’t allow unaccompanied women inside and some that don’t let women in at all so I’m guessing it is legal.
