THIS SO MUCH

Also “I disagree with your existence but I still have a GOOD HEART!!!!”

“I disagree with your existence, but can’t we be friends?”

One of the most exhausting and frustrating things in the whole entire world is a privileged white person with oppressive political views getting bent out of shape because someone reasonably makes the logical connection from those political views to personal beliefs and calls her out on it.

also, if she went from wearing a full face to what she wears now people would still talk about it

I hope you allow me to say that as a Mexican immigrant with undocumented relatives: there is absolutely no silver linning on her not being in the White House.

I will forever regret that this woman isn’t our president. If we manage to live past this decade without Trump starting a nuclear war I hope some of his voters regret that as well.

She should have been president...

Did she? I didn’t get that at all from her essay.

I just read both of those linked articles and seemed to have missed where she said “I am never wearing makeup again”. It is her business, and really I don’t get the hate especially from women.

Does there also come a time in a man’s life when makeup is needed? Or is it okay for them not to have unhidden blotchy skin, lighter lashes and brows, and paler lips?

yea, maybe she decided to wear a little bit that day?

As far as I understand, she really has been completely makeup-free for some things. Just not absolutely everything. And I think she’s being put in a somewhat impossible position with the way that this whole thing has been written about.

I really think that what she actually said was really overblown by how the media (including Jezebel) covered it, though.

Can somebody who knows about makeup help out poor makeup-not-understanding me? Is there a clear line between “show makeup” that men and women both wear when making public appearances in the entertainment industry and “makeup makeup” of the sort that all women in our society, but not men, are conventionally expected to

EXACTLY. People have been SALIVATING waiting for her to fuck up. It’s what happens to uncooperative women! Honestly, I kind of feel like a big “fuck you” to Kara for playing patriarchy-enforcer here. This isn’t really about Alicia Keys’s lack of integrity for grooming her damn brows.

I really don’t think it matters much. I think the point is to normalize a bigger range of female beauty. Not to take some weird ascetic stance that requires a perfectly pure and 100% makeup-free face forever and ever. Even to SOMETIMES wear no makeup can be a big deal. Even to wear extremely minimal makeup can be a

no dude i am totally with you. nothing in that list even screams MAKEUP at me tho, which was the “proof” that she’s going back on her stance. and you’re right even if she did wear some some days i would not care.

And even then! Eyebrow filler does not seem like a huge big deal to me. Man, I just really, really, really wish it was more normalized for female celebrities to just not really do much makeup and have that be just whatever. And to still have them celebrated for their beauty. We don’t do this shit to men!

There’s a difference between the makeup you need to be on camera (think a male news anchor) and a woman who is made up (the whole shebang).
