I spent my childhood (ages 1-11) in the Philadelphia area before we moved to Indiana. So there are a lot of PA-specific things that make me nostalgic — Tastykakes, Lebanon bologna, tomato pie — none of which I can really get in Chicago!

Hot dogs wrapped in crescent rolls, with a chunk of cheddar pushed into a slit in the dog before you wrap it.
Keebler Fudge Stripes. My parents were strict about junk food, so visits with Grandma always meant 'afternoon tea' with those particular cookies and either Pepsi or Cran-Grape from the downstairs fridge.
My girlfriend and I have been doing pretty well through this, with a few bumps along the way, but 90% of the time things have been very good. She has her bad food habits, I try not to focus on them for both our benefits, but as mentioned in the article she also leaves 3/4s a cup of tea or other beverage on the table…
Wife and I must be in the minority then. We were just talking over the weekend how having the both of us working from home has brought us a lot closer together. She gets to rant more about her miserable children constantly skipping her classes then lying to their parents about watching when they receive an F(honestly,…
Her: My head hurts. My skin is dry. I’m so dehydrated.
so here’s the thing about cups. It’s less about the ‘cup’ and more about waste. Half full glass of water? don’t care, we drink tap water. Coffee/Tea? at that point it’s more irritating that you didn’t dump it out and rinse it, as there is now a ring stain to deal with. Soda/Sparking Water? well, it’s not…
I am in! I am not sure the last time I watched the Kentucky Derby, but I have a huge soft spot for turtles. (Now I have to run outside and tell my husband our Saturday plans)
Spareribs and sauerkraut. It’s a family dish that I grew up eating. My wife has actually started to like it after 10+ years, but I pretty much only make it for me. I made it with homemade sauerkraut last time and it was awesome. Much better than the canned or bagged stuff.
Why naan?
Coffee cake with chocolate chips is now something I need in my life.
Anything really spicy. The rest of the family just isn’t into it. I love a good jambalaya, catfish courtbouillon, curry, or a chili with fifteen types of pepper including scotch bonnet or habanero. Of course, spicy food doesn’t like me back much anymore.
I still make those cakes, but I put them in the teeniest of loaf pans because I figure that there’s a good chance that they’ll remain untouched. I have a select few people in my life who get the large loaf pans, laden with ever so much rum. Those happy few love it.
What I really miss are the things I no longer make because nobody else eats them and they’re too time-intensive and/or expensive to bother. I used to make really good fruitcake. Fruit soaked in rum for months before baking, cake soaked in rum afterwards. Dark, yummy. The only people who ate it were my mother, my…
Coffee cake with mini chocolate chips (or regular size, depends on what I have), pulverized toasted walnuts, and spices mixed into the batter. Yum.
Your other grandmother’s fruit salad also goes by the name ambrosia, and it’s delicious (if sweet).
My grandmother’s sunshine salad (orange jello, shredded carrots, pineapple, mandarin oranges) and my other grandmother’s fruit salad (pineapple, mandarin oranges, shredded coconut, mini marshmallows, sour cream).
Thanks for tip and the good joke.
Yeah, the author should really be using some kind of gas release. There’s a reason that, when I started homebrewing, I kept all my bottles in a lidded Rubbermaid bin that I called the “bottle bunker”.
That was a fun read thanks.
