None of us got fired or reprimanded in any way.

“How are the first bites?  Oh, it isn’t what you wanted?  Well, too bad, you should have kept you mouth shut because now you have to eat this for the rest of your life.”

You can switch tables with another server or do what we used to when someone reprehensible came in (like the guy who raped a friend of mine)—give him the worst service possible.

Sweetness is a weird thing for me.  I love cakes, pastries, ice cream.... But I hate when foods that aren’t supposed to be sweet are.  Sugary meats make my stomach turn, and although they are the worst offenders, there are quite a few other sweetened foods that I have a visceral reaction to.

If there is anything that will get me to spend $30 on a cocktail, it is that I could watch someone spit on a trump.

I think a lot of women like SUV’s/crossovers because they carry a lot of things and are easy to get kids in and out of. It is very rare that I see a man alone with his kids at the grocery store, but I see women alone with their kids there all the time.

The thing is, interiors really make a difference for women. It helps if you think of it as an average height issue. The average woman is 5'4". The average man is 5'10", so a drivers seat/cockpit that is designed for the average man isn’t going to be as comfortable or even safe as one that is designed with a shorter

I thought Miatas were for men who were having midlife crises and couldn’t afford a BMW roadster.

As a customer drinking a beer, I did have to stop a bartender from putting Bailey’s in a sidecar once.  I don’t know what she thought she was making, but the classic sidecar clearly stumped her.

Old fashioneds had a resurgence after Mad Men.  You might get some eyerolls because they think you also wear a fedora and want to be Don Draper.

Talk to the host and get them to seat people in the good tables first.  Every section has good tables and bad tables, and if I am seated near the kitchen, busing station, or that family with 20 kids, I enjoy my meal less.  The more I enjoy my meal, the more generous I am.

Yep.  When a server mirrors (or what we called repeating an order when I worked in restaurants) that shows me that they are paying attention.

I thought broccoli was in everything because it was cheap, available year round, and stored and transported well, not that people actually liked it.

“We have 12 IPAs or PBR”.

Why are you talking about today when I am talking about 20 years ago? That is a piss poor comparison.

I admit, the Becks and such have turned me off that style of beer to the point that I won’t even try it.

It seems similar to the roast chicken test for cooks.  It is so simple that it won’t hide your mistakes.

I love beer.  I hate hops.  I was so disappointed when I got a hopped sour recently.

I think another bad thing beer brewers are doing that is similar to a mistake wine makers made is to insist that something has to be astringent or hard to drink in order to be respectable.  Hops taste bad.  Yes, they do.  If you don’t like bitter foods, hops are disgusting.  They are doing to beer what tannins did to

I like to take dessert home. I had a big dinner, so I let it digest a bit, then eat dessert later that night. I can’t do that with ice cream.  It will melt by the time I get home, plus ice cream doesn’t feel special like a nice pastry does.
