I think we have some insight as to why magazines are becoming irrelevant.

I think I was 12.  I distinctly remember that I was in the reference section of the library and when I didn’t respond to the older boys’ the way they wanted, they called me fat and left.

If anything, we repeatedly, persistently downplay just how bad the assault and harassment are because we don’t want to be blamed and know that people will find a way to take the guy’s side.

“It rises to the level of Soviet-style re-education. These guys have got to be re-educated they have to show sufficient atonement, remorse….”

In the push to give the standard “always tip 20%” answer this question glazed over a few important points. Room service always adds a service charge. Sometimes it automatically adds a gratuity. I am never clear if those are the same thing. Is a service charge a gratuity by another name? Or is it a legitimate version

I don’t normally go for the surfer-dude looks, but I would probably collapse into a creamy puddle if I saw Chris Hemsworth in person.  That man is preternaturally beautiful.

I may or may not have watched that episode three times in the last two weeks.

Certain foods should not be all you can eat.  Bavarian sushi is at the top of that list.

You said “sole reason”.  I said it was more complicated than that.

I can imagine being a kid and trying to figure out what the hell a number cube was and being completely distracted from the lesson because they wouldn’t use the common word.

That isn’t the sole reason for the triangle.  A huge part of the reason was ocean currents.  History would have been completely different if the ocean currents flowed the opposite way.  It was the perfect confluence of racism, colonialism, natural resources, and environmental conditions.

Most history teachers like to pretend that American history ended with WW2. I always wanted to learn more about Viet Nam in class, but even when I took 20th century American History, it ended with Kennedy’s assassination. The civil rights movement was barely mentioned.

Same here. And as someone who grew up in the same era, the Atlantic slave trade was never mentioned as such, but the Atlantic triangle trade was. Later, I made friends with a woman who went to well-off public schools in CA during the same era and had never heard of the Holocaust until the museum there opened.

Wow.

I have my settings locked down as tightly as I can. The mapping app is only supposed to be able to track my location when I am using the app with the settings I have it on. I have specifically looked this up multiple times. It is tracking me even though I have explicitly, repeatedly told it not to.

Good point.  I carry a canvas purse instead of a leather one just for the weight.

Nope.  I don’t have my address listed.  It is either pulling it from order forms that I have filled out or it is tracking my location.  And I don’t use GPS for anything other than maps and a couple other select apps.

That facial recognition stuff is creepy.  Plus, I have never entered my home address into the maps app on my iPhone, and I keep deleting it from there, but that damn phone/app always lists directions for how to get home and how much time it will take.  Fuck that.  They aren’t even pretending to give me privacy.

New phones are definitely too big.  The reason I bought an iPhone instead of a Samsung last time was that the Samsung phone are too big.  If iPhone is going to be gigantic, I might as well buy a Samsung or other Android.  I want a phone that I can fit into my purse or even a pocket.
