Uhhh when castration in that manner is a feature of lynchings and they’re specifically talking about hanging him from the highest tree possible...it’s a race thing. Maybe the anger came from a place unrelated to race but they sure took it there.

I never wrote that the Sopranos was the most prestigious of all time-are you replying the the right post? I like the Sopranos, but give me Deadwood as my favorite show of all time.
The headline seems to imply it, buuut maybe he was just referring to the in-show movie. *shrug*
I think looking for redemption is such a Hollywood plot device that doesn’t hold up to actual people in the real world, and the show challenges that. Sally obviously learned enough to know she had to leave Barry to break the cycle, and it seemed she accepted a quieter kind of validation from her art.
really did you see the ending? If Barry has been absolved of his crimes how can helping him escape of prison be considered a crime? nobody came after her because they completely switched the narrative. that’s the whole subject of the episode.
It wouldn’t play out that way in California (I don’t think there are any Walmarts that have gun selections in California, for one thing), due to the delays and such required. But this is heightened reality, not our world.
Good review, but a note: The title of this episode was “wow”, not “The Mask Collector”.
A few thoughts on the finale:
Sally was definitely the one to kill him. But, given the circumstances, I go back and forth about if it was murder. He nearly choked her to death, which arguably makes her subsequent actions self-defense. She had every reason to believe that he would try to kill her again, pen in the eye or no.
Great finale and ending that completely subverted expectations while sticking to the core theme of the show which is the banality and emptiness of violence and the consequences of it.
!!! ROOT!!! Honestly this actor has been stellar for sooo many years. I gotta say tho— the tatted Stephen Root is the best Stephen Root!! I don’t care if I still here a Mike Judge animation in my head when I hear his voice, I still wanted him to bend me over and make me call him Daddy.
“That Barry could be so many things and do it in a half hour is an incredible achievement and a rewarding watch, even if it made us queasy sometimes.”
I feel like him doing that is a red herring, but if he did burn the cabin I’m kind of on his side. Those girls have gone totally feral, and Coach Ben is a literal one-legged man in an ass-kicking contest. He knows he’s the next course on the menu.
Yes, there are definitely preexisting girl-is-not-right issues with Misty. She is on the team, but she isn’t ON the team, you know?
But as a character he’s shown no inclinations towards violence so far in the show. To go from that to murdering everyone should merit, like flashback next season, at least. I think the writers left themselves a bit of wiggle room on it.
But Misty seemed to give no indication she was pissed. I think Ben is still the obvious culprit.
Things went from zero to crazy really fast in the present storyline. I had trouble understanding why the characters were doing what they were doing, especially Lottie, but not just her.
Just checking, but we all knew that Kevin was dead as soon as he was handed the hot chocolate, right?
I agree with some who have written that the plotting was a little messy here. But damn, the acting is still great. I love all of the cast, in the past and present settings.
Couple things the detective with the mustache wouldn’t have gun residue on his hands and I’m pretty sure they could figure out post death gun shots. Why would he even have to shoot him if there was enough phenobarbital in him to kill him which they could probably trace back to Lottie's psychiatrist I think is where…
